Title: 2.8 shogun do they hav EGR valve? or other bits to clean?
Post by: lightweight-love on January 05, 2009, 12:15:34
Hi my folks work horse is a 2.8 shogun now over 180,000 miles do they have an EGR valve or equivalent that could do with a clean? or anything else?
shes well serviced, but in this cold spell (minus figures here) sometimes doesn't want to start straight away and i feel has lost a bit of power.
thanks in advance for any ideas!
Duncan

Hi Duncan

In general, most don't, I believe... but, just to complicate matters, some do!

I'd guess that cold starting problems are more likely to be glow plugs... or, possibly, the bus-bar that links them might need a good clean (easy and cheap option to start with).

Hope that helps... but I suspect it doesn't!

Most 2.8's do have an EGR valve (my 1999 MK3 did) and the best thing is to blank it off completely as they are a pain to clean.

I thought it was only the import pajeros that had the egr valve, hope someone sets me straight though and shows me a diagram of where mine is lol

No mate, mine was a UK spec 2.8 Shogun and I balnked the EGR off, made hell of a difference.

The EGR valve is there to push any unburnt vapour back into the induction system but it also has the effect of choking the engine slightly.

By blanking it off you will ensure that you only get 100% clean fuel vapour into the engine and believe me you will notice the difference. It will run smoother, pull better and do a little more to the gallon.

While I'm on here can I just make a recomendation to all Paj/Shogun diesel owners, every so often stick a good quality diesel treatment in the fuel tank. Best one I found was Valvoline Max Life, made a heck of a difference.

Ordered a blanking plate from pajerouk, do i need to remove anything or just undo the bolts and slip the new plate in?
Cheers Rob.
