Title: Help brakes doing strange things
Post by: chrislj on June 20, 2008, 12:54:46
Only just noticed that my brakes are failing.  I have just put some bigger heavier wheels so I had attributed it to this fact but, eventually got worse.

When driving under braking the pedal slowly continues to the floor (if I don't pump it).  It still brakes but is getting slightly worse.

So When I realised this I took all the wheels off and looked for leaks, Found none and the reservior doesn't seem to have gone down.

Started pressing the brake with the engine off and it seems they work fine, Start it and press the brake and the problem returns.

Help what is wrong?

I would say that your seals have gone / are going  in your master cylinder. You are looking at a new master cylinder or a rebuild kit (if you can get one)

Master cylinder is about £80 plus postage from Milners (http://www.milneroffroad.com/) they seem not to do a rebuild kit but you could ask

Finally fixed it.

New pads all round, New master cylinder, Greased all the calipers/sliders and bled it to [!Expletive Deleted!].

The vac bleed system I bought did the trick bleeding.
