dont really wont to do water untill i have fitted a snorkel after finding all that mud in air box from 3 holes dont want to take chance of sucking up water into engine
The 3 fords are fine for the standard disco, ask bobtailed disco, with his V8!! No porblems, as even after lots of rain, the water isn't deep enough.

I'd only come for the lunch and then head off again. The Merc 190E doesn't do fords  And the Freelander is otherwise occupied. And the LR90 is...err..... in bits

Hi Craig.

I see somebody else is getting the benefit of those mud tyres I sold you!  :D

Can I join you on the 30th? It will be my first MudClub event although I've been an online member for years

Be good to meet some new people in the area.

Cheers, Danny

Title: Re: Norfolk Meet - 30 Nov 2008
Post by: DiscoDan on November 21, 2008, 21:37:03
Yep, the Disco is fine, never misses a beat.

How formal are the MudClub meets? Does the Regional Rep keep minutes or anything?

I've done a few local lanes with Breckland LR Club but I'd be keen to find some more.

Cheers, Danny

Correct me if Im wrong.  But,

Tables booked for 20 people at 14.30, we eat lunch then go laning, but it gets dark at 1600.  So why not bring the lunch forward to say, 1300, food will be fresher and it wont be dark for laning!!!

What do people want to do? PM me with your ideas. Do you want to do laning first them the meal? Bring the meal forward and lane longer in the light, OR carry on as planned?

Let me know, only have 6 days left

Greenlane all day (say, 10-4ish), then go to the evening meal in the pub (5pm ish).  Lunch/Carvery is smack bang in the middle of our laning time!!!

No, its just gentle green laning, there are no hard lanes in Norfolk that Ive found!!!
Title: Re: Norfolk Meet - 30 Nov 2008
Post by: DiscoDan on November 26, 2008, 18:07:24
Hi ya.

Personally I don't want to start the day too early, not a morning person!  :'( But we could have the carvery earlier, 11 or 12 and that would give us more daylight for laning.

I think the post on page 1 or 2 said the meal prices were expensive so it would be good to stick to the carvery times rather than an evening meal.

Cheers, Danny

true! I looked at the prices for the other pub, restaurant prices rather than the pub meal prices! whoops  The meal can only be booked for 2.30, Henry tried to get it earlier but due to the party size, he accomodated us all for later.
Title: Re: Norfolk Meet - 30 Nov 2008
Post by: diggerdog36 on November 26, 2008, 20:41:05
Thne why not find a pub that is cheap and serves bar meals, so we can go laning then have a leisurely meal instead of rushing our food just to catch the fading light

Title: Re: Norfolk Meet - 30 Nov 2008

the only reason i thought of that is because petrol models have a sensor on the oil filter

that could be it jav rob done an oil change put new filter on and for got to top up with oil

Just had a full service when i bought it (all oils and filters) oil levels are all ok the light only comes on when i go through fords it must be like a warning "I'm a v8 i dont like water" lol

might be a place to start, it could be something simple like a loose connection and when the pressure of the water hits it it dissconects

Looks like I'll be fixing a water pipe on Sunday. The digger driver broke through a mains pipe in one of our fields  Sunday is the first chance I'll have, so I doubt I'll get over to the pub meet. Sorry guys, but the pipe has to be a priority  The water is turned off, but it is still going to be a boggy mess.... oh joy!

9 Cars turned up, lost 4 cars leaving the pub, all met eventually at  BP near McDonalds in Swaffham, lost 4 more at the start of peddars way, found them in the end! Went to Castle Acre and West Acre fords. The meal at the start wasn't impressive on starters, so left to see to horse, then went back for laning!

Next time, it will be organised by myself, with something along the lines of: Meet at McDonalds, have breakfast at 9, leave at 9.30, do Peddars, Fords, More lanes, more peddars, Lunch, More peddars, and around 4, have tea (fish and chips or a meal.) Keep a look out for the next

It started off at the wrong time and at the wrong place, it should have been an early start and an evening meal, then people can spin their dits over dinner.
We could have looked for a pub at the start of peddars way.

I know I wasnt forced to go, but I thought Id turn up to give it a go,  I wanst happy with some things.  Thats why I voted with my feet and left.  With one of the organisers close behind me.  Weve moved down here from North Yorkshire where we have been laning for almost 10 years, and Ive never seen people have so much disregard for 'Greenlaning Rules'
Title: Re: Norfolk Meet - 30 Nov 2008

I personally think that a few hours of 'good' green-laning is far better than a full day just for the sake of it. Maybe I would say that as it would cost a kings ransum (?) for me to do a full days green-laning in my petrol v8.
Truthfully I've lost interest in offroading but could just be tempted back into the fold with a few easy going night drives. Until then my Range Rover remains a Chelsea Tractor.

Hi.

This was my first MudClub event and first night laning event.

Without wanting to sit on the fence I agree with most of the above. The exception being the posts that have a go at somebody for expressing a view,  [-X contructive criticism and reminding people of the greenlaning guidelines is how events can be improved.

The confusion seems to be partly because Craig was organising the event but Henry was booking the meal and leading the drive. I appreciate people giving up their time to run events as I wouldn't have the knowledge/experience to do it at this stage.

I found the meal good but think Craig is right about having a meal time, and a start time, some members were waiting for us to finish the meal for some time.

I also agree with Diggerdog about the Greenlaning guidelines. 9 is too many in a convoy, and means that those at the back don't receive the same communications. Things like driving over verges and parking outside peoples houses does lead to us getting a bad press and saying 'f**k them' is just a selfish attitude. It's because of people like this that off roaders are already barred from large numbers of greenlanes.

As a new member I was worried about the issue of driving legal greenlanes and whether this had been checked by Henry in advance, it's fine to joke that 'it'll be ok' but I don't know if that was a joke or a serious answer! I for one don't want to get a notice from Police as described in the other thread on here. The description of excessive ruts described above could be in the section of lane with a voluntary restraint on it?

Just to clarify, I'm not saying we drove illegal lanes.

MudClub is an internet club with little control over members, if people have MudClub plastered on their vehicle they should respect the other members of MudClub and not bring it into disrepute. Is it the case that more formal clubs reject members that disregard the rules and they come here to play?

I enjoyed the night laning, and I would come again, it was good to meet others from the area and to find out that others have the same concerns as me regarding greenlaning. I did leave early, partly due to the time, partly the group size and actions, and partly wanting to see Top Gear!  :D

Thanks Craig & Henry, hope you can see my point of view.

Dan.

Nice post Dan.

I was not there. I can only go on what I read and as they say 'the mud is a little clearer now'.
It seams to me that the meal was the main point of the day and the green-lane secondary.
Maybe , just maybe the green-laning wasn't up to the normal high standard Henry usually sets when he arranges a green-laning run.
I'm sure lessons can be learnt and improvments made including a more detailed events timetable.
So come on lads,  make up and be friends

Sorry Henry but the A47 needs me on the 14th

Hi.

I haven't fallen out with anyone! I was just posting my view of my first MudClub event, and the timing isn't the issue for me.

Thanks Henry for checking the lanes, as I said I appreciate the time people put in.

My concern about parking outside houses is about creating a poor image, not about legally being allowed to do it. Nobody wants a queue of cars outside in the dark, especially families and the elderly.

And yes, I will fix the cb!

Cheers, Dan

We only carry 30 cones in the van.
What we do best is completely close the road and send you all on a 30 mile plus diversion.

Hey guys. Just thought I'd better step in here before it gets out of hand. So far, it's remained on the right side of polite, so let's keep it that way please.

It is obvious that some have concern over what went on. Different people will have different views on what is right and wrong. Let's keep that in mind and be broad minded about it.

However, the way I read it, there was a convoy of 9 vehicles. This not only goes against the laning guidelines, but against my polite request before the event took place. The guidelines are not rules, so ultimately you can do as you wish. But in joining this club you agree to abide by the guidelines which suggest no more than 4 vehicles in a group. I would like to request that this is adhered to in future please.

It did drop down to 7 about an hour into it as Diggerdog36 and myself left due to babies bedtimes!! Then again when we left the petrol station as some missed the first turning!!

This is true, yes 9 trucks did leave the pub, but as like everything there is always the choice to say NO if people don't feel comfortable going, it's all good and well stick waving and witch hunting, but when it boils down to it everyone was accountable not just a select few as thing seem to be argued.

Jav.

As like most things in life, i don't mind bitting the bullet but when people start having ago at others i.e friends and sometime myself, i'm going to be the first to jump in with two feet as a sheet of paper always has two sides not just the face.

I requested before the event that the group sizes were restricted to a max of 4 if at all possible. It is also in the guidelines that everyone agrees to when they join Mud Club.

That's good. Sometimes it is better just to formalise groups right at the start. It just makes keeping them together a whole lot easier and reduces the risk of conflict with the natives  :D

Now I would like to say a Big thank you to Henry for helping me organise this, we will be organising another meet, but it will be one to suit all tastes! There will be the day laning, and afterwards, there will be night laning for those who feel day laning isn't challenging enough. If there are enough people, we will try and split into 3 or even 4 groups of a max of 5, ideally groups of 4, and have a leader for each group, doing different sets of lanes.

I don't think anyone has suggested witch hunting, or are even waving sticks! But a couple of people have expressed their concerns which they are perfectly entitled to do. And as you say, when they felt uncomfortable, they left. Or at least one did, anyway.

All vehicles having CB's sounds a good idea at least 2 in each group (one on the front and one at the back) and ensure the leader of each group has mobile contact as well (just as back up)
I have been out on a few outings with Henry and 1 with Craig before and they have been gr8 days out.
If i can make the next one i will more than willingly lead another group. if we get the maps out b4 hand and plan a route just so we all no where we are going.

ITS NICE TO SEE PEOPLE DOING THINGS FOR THE CLUB THIS MEAL/LANEING IS IN EARLY STAGES, THERE IS BOUND TO BE A FEW MISTAKES WE JUST NEED LISTEN TO PEOPLES COMMENTS AND LEARN BY THEM.

Thanks Henry and Craig

its jimbobly in the rangie that came on sunday, thanks to everyone who organised the event,it was a good day out,and good to meet people, every single one of you spoke to me,unlike the other club i joined, that after sunday dont think i will be spending much time with that lot again.ive read some of the issues going on here, and if everyone expresses their opinion properly, they will be respected for it im sure,we have got to abide by the rules, and not give the ramblers ammunition,i agree, but in my opinion, everything was spot on,looking forward to seeing you all,and more soon, jimbobly :D

.......and we are now finally getting a regular meet now which can only be a good thing in my eyes

We have had regular Norfolk/Suffolk pub meets, laning trips and visits to off road centres for the last 3 or 4 years. But I found that we would start a pub meet on a monthly basis and it went well for a while. But after a few months the numbers dwindled and we had little choice but to give up. Then the whole process would happen again 6 months later!!

Henry is putting in a lot of effort and I aplaud this. And it's great to see others starting to organise things too.

At the risk of getting way off topic, the 'rep' thing was originally set up mainly to provide a point of reference for those travelling into the area. Not as an 'organiser'. Obviously, it has ended up being a bit that way sometimes

So, I'd suggest carrying as you are and keep up the good work!
