It's a 1967 Series 2b
Chassis number 20, originally fitted with a (long since departed) 2.6 6 cylinder.

No real history that I know of, I think it was just a normal civvy vehicle.   Long term plans are to put a camper body on the back of it...   short term plans are to get it running and on the road to be able to attend the heritage run at Gaydon

We'll see :-)

I've been the same for ages...  didn't want a 101, not really a big fan, so when this one came up, I went for it.   Drove all the way to Durham to collect it too !!

Your a lucky man, Tim lad.    I've long had yen for a FC myself.  There's one not far from here, with a cherry picker on the back.  Keep resisting the temptation to enquire about it, cos' if I did :?   Well, where would I put it and what would T'Other Arf say.  :?

Only a bit of progress this weekend..   I got to Sunday evening and wondered where all the time had gone !

Engine is going to be a tight squeeze in there, but I think all will be OK.

Back on it's axles and Engine mounts in place...  should all be painted up next weekend, and hopefully I'll start getting bodywork back on

Hi, nice job on the welding there, been throught it myself its a lot of work, but well worth it they are a great truck when finised.

I also went for a 2B that ive had on the road for a year now and the project is still ongoing ....... see my gallery. I have a few bits for them and plenty of info that may be of help.

Good luck with your project it will be nice to see another series forward control on the road.

I think Tim you have shown us all what is possible, forget replaement chassies for £800 just repair what you have, sheet metal isn't expensive and a replacement woiuld have been as much work and no where near as much fun.

Good one.

Probably 12-15 hours, depending on what else I have to do at the weekend !

It's on its axles now and the bulkhead is properly in place.   Engine and gearbox are next so the project should start to skip along for a bit... until I come to the electrical work, and then it will all slow down again

your project seems to be flying along, where as mine is limping (but nearly there). i spent a three weeks welding my chassis and it wasnt have as knackered as yours.

Post by: Tigger on April 17, 2006, 20:05:36
Projects are like that though...  I spent a whole day working on it last weekend and at the end of it all I seemed to have done was stick some engine mounts on it !!

whats your plan for it when it finished (probibly next week at you pace!!!)
Title: The project rolls on !
Post by: Tigger on April 17, 2006, 20:12:34
It's destined to be a camper.  First shakedown trips will be local (New Forest, etc.) with a trip somewhere nice in Wales or Scotlandshire to give it a proper run.

Long term we're planning a few trips further afield.....   :-)

It'll also be the tow car for the 90 when we're off at competitions.  It's always  nice to be able to take a nice, hot shower at the end of a muddy day  8)

I'm sure there will be ample opportunity for that !   Whilst it isn't being built to be used off-road particularly, it will retain its off-road credentials and should be very capable.  Some of the trips will involve a certain amount of....   non-tarmac activity

what engines going in it then?
Title: The project rolls on !
Post by: Tigger on April 17, 2006, 20:23:57
Now... if you knew me better, you wouldn't have needed to ask that question

3.9 V8
Title: The project rolls on !
Post by: mark.yellow.series.3 on April 17, 2006, 20:27:02
sweet :D

why the 3.9 and not the more common 3.5
Title: The project rolls on !
Post by: Tigger on April 17, 2006, 20:29:48
Well, the 3.9 is more powerful so hopefully it won't have to work as hard in the shed-shaped vehicle ;-)

Also... because I have a spare one in the shed...  which is handy !

Post by: mark.yellow.series.3 on April 17, 2006, 20:33:40
ahh...i see.

WAXOIL inside the chassi tigger you will not regret it. I have with mine and its brill. Will cost a bit more but well worth it. Remember water gets inside easy...... What can be better than a wax that repairs itself.

Already done, and inside the bulkhead

Top stuff. I spent 3 days on the ramp welding my series 3 had to take rear tub floor out to weld tops and its just been the best. 12 months down the line and with a tap of the hammer it still sounds in tune..... you know that " TING " tune not the " THUD " Very nice job so far.. will be watching. When ya hoping to get it done buy or is work holding ya back like me...?

You just need to make sure you do all the welding *before* you do the Waxoyl.. else you make pretty little fires in the chassis rails

Work is always inconveniently taking up my time, but it's coming on.  Not going to rush it to meet a deadline though... it needs to be right more than it needs to be quick.

I'd like to get it to the LRW show at Eastnor... so that gives me about 9 weeks to get it running !
