Title: Just bought a TD4 Auto!
Post by: ukmudmaster on October 01, 2008, 20:16:08
Just bought a TD4 Auto! This to replace my old Vectra for day to day use, and keep the RRC for playing.
The RRC converted me to Auto , so smooth and easy, so decided whatever my next car was, it must be auto.
Really pleased, even though it has no Cruise Control, and I cant get it retro fitted.
It has everything else I need though, with comfort as well.
V small boot!
Anyway, time will tell if its a good'un.

We've owned a TD4 auto for a few years and it's been fine. Only major issue was a wiring fault where the loom passes over the LH front strut and wears through  I understand it's a common problem with the cars built around 2001.

Otherwise, it's done everything we want of it.

I agree the boot is small on the Freebie, I use a roof box when we need to go away for the extra storage, hope you have some good fun in it aswell mate ;)

Cheers

Well, I had it a week,  and it died!
It just stopped and would not restart, ( dark, cold and wet night, of course). had to get it recovered back to the dealer.........................who could not fix it, so sent it to a Land Rover main dealer, who replaced the fuel pump
This took a few days, but now its fine.
In the meantime, I had to use my RRC V8 for a 1,000 mile round trip to France that could not wait.
Superb, if you ignore the fuel bill !
So, as I said before, time will tell.

What a pain. But to be fair, a fuel pump can fail on any vehicle. It was just unlucky it happened at that time. But don't these things always happen at the most inconvenient times?

And don't be worried about taking it off road either. It may not have the ground clearance of some, but you'll be surprised at what it will happily climb over.

And if the boot's a bit small, just fold the rear seats - it works for me :)

This is not for off road..........................................will get get used for shooting/fishing though, so may well see a track or two around farms. Will see this week how it copes with a rucksack full of nets and decoys, and all the other stuff I seem to take along. Bought some roof bars just in case.
Anyway, its problems are now sorted, it turned out to be a fuel pump!
And....................................I bought a "mud" plate for it, from DVLA website, isn't vanity easy!

Just done a 1000 mile round trip to Burgundy and back over the weekend, snow, ice, pouring rain, the lot!
Even a forest track...coz my new sat-nav was set for "unpaved roads".
No problems ( other than wipers frozen to the screen and doors frozen shut) and all in comfort..........................................
Very happy,
Dave

Just done another 1000 mile trip, this time with a big trailer.
Isn't it a nice tow car......................................

Yes re towing, I think that there a quite a lot of people who actually NEED a 4x4 who use Freelanders becuase they dont want to be compromised on the road, but need offroad. Whereas if all you do is pay someone to drtive round thier quarry, then you "want" a Defender etc?  contraversioal perhaps......

Have you thought about getting a dog guard. I use one as a load guard so I can fill the boot up bast the seat heiht, it also fits quite well between the folded up rears and front seats to make a load guard, which ain lets you stuff all sorts of stuff in the back.

IF you really need extra load abillity the Broiwnchursh safari rack is ideal (I have desks and filing cabinets on mine many a time)

Isn't that taking the mobile office concept a little too far?   :-k

I looked a fitting a dog guard to mine, but I'd prefer a mesh type to the bars of the Land Rover one because it's less likely to let smaller things slip through.
