Title: Gear Troubles
Post by: BrumLee on December 20, 2006, 09:52:43
The wifes Freelander has suddenly developed a fault of difficulty getting gears and the pedal bitting low. It didn't come on gradually, one minute it was fine the next hardly any clutch.

I've looked and there's no bleed nipples    and I'm suspecting a rubber may have gone in either one of the cylinders. Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Hi Mikee

Its the 1.8 Xei version. The cars under warranty but I've a feeling the garage is going to try and say it's fair wear and tear even though the fault didn't come on gradually

My experiance relates the the elise, but its essentially the same gearbox.  There should be a blead nipple on the slave cylinder on the gearbox.

Well the dealers we bought the Freelander from (Suzuki agent) said they'd checked it out and their diagnosis was a worn out clutch    Wanted £488 + VAT to replace but Rovamania quoted £250 + VAT, so I struggled it down to Reg.

Picked it up today and a new clutch was fitted as instructed, but symptom was still the same (suprise). So a new hydraulic system was fitted and is now as good as new. Oil in the IRD was also like sludge so that was changed

I'm in the process of writing to the Suzuki dealership a nice letter to ask for reimburment of costs due to their mis-diagnosis as the hydraulic system is covered by their warranty for failure. I feel a nice trip to court will be marked on the calendar if their past attitude is anything to go by   .

Anyone else been in this position ?

I ahd the same problem with my Td4. Took it to Williams at Hulme after reading a tale of similar woe in LRO (Staff Writer's Freeby) Result was entire clutch assembly replaced under warranty. It is a known problem which starts to show itself at around 22000 miles
