Title: Any freeloader geeks out there??
Post by: auto on December 17, 2006, 15:16:58
On other halfs freeloader ( which i would add is suprisingly ok off road!!) has delevoped an odd abs noise.

On start up and first few times you apply brakes it give as little erm....buzz i suppose!...just briefly and goes.

Now about a week before, the abs, brake and hdc light flashed for bit. She thought it was odd, engaged and disengaged the hdc to see if maybe it wasnt in all the way or something and it all stopped!

But now just have this odd spurt of abs....sounds a bit like when you start a car with a sticky starter!

Daft one,
but check all the brake light bulbs are OK as a duff one can give some funny responses,
or,
check the positioning of the wheel sensors as they can do funny things too.

Hi,

I would expect it to be an ABS sensor.  I had a similar problme in a MRK3 golf GTI. Baiscally it buzzedd when you applied the brakes, it transpired to be  one of the ABS sensors, which when replaced sorted it out.  It may be that  the sensor ring is$ blocked or damaged,  Possibly with mud.

If the sensor is gone then either a dealer diags kit, or multi meter should detect which one.

also check that the brake calipers haven`t siezed up abit, both mine have done so and makes the brake pedal behave strangely, it gives a sqeake creep noise as the disc forces the caliper piston back, high mileage car tho mine with lots of mud thrown in :)
