Well, I got impatient so decided to take her round to the MOT man to see if there was anything major wrong with my handiwork.
Short answer is no, and she passed her test with only some minor comments
- n/s headlamp at extent of adjustment due to the wing not being straight
- rear brakes not correctly balanced, but still okay
Had a quick drive round (still need to pick up my free tax disc, so didn't go silly) and realised that the engine needs a good going over now. I know Series 3's aren't quick, but she seemed to run out of steam over 30mph, and that's not right.
Other than that, gearbox was fine, overdrive was quiet and we made it home unscathed.
Happy days . . . . . .

congrats.
is it a diesel or petrol 2.25?
-
She's a diesel

Well done :azn:

Sound about right for an elder 2.25 diesel
Just taken the rag and sticks off mine this evening and put the screen down. Went for a rip around the block - my face was like this >>> Going to do the commute tomorrow like it but wearing my ballistic goggles. Might avoid the A roads as my face would be ripped off at 60 like clarkson.

Excellent news, another gets to live on, well done that man.

Thank you kind sir. Really enjoyed doing it. Using two wrecks to build one good one from the ground up has been very satisfying.
My face was like this >>>
I know what you mean. Went and picked up my 'free' tax disc this morning and had a potter around in her. Big grins and sense of satisfaction were had aplenty.
Still not sure about performance. Struggling to keep 30 feels wrong, despite her age, and she's chuffing a bit when warmed up. Might need to get the valves and/or rings done.
Also found a small diesel leak off the lever on the side of the fuel pump that moves when the throttle is pressed. Not sure it can be fixed. Might need to be a whole new pump ........
Still, loving it anyway.

Well done Simon!
You can help me with mine now ;)
