Not at all complicated but as for doing it..no thanks, as simple as it is lying on your back manhandling a gearbox that seems to weigh more than the rest of the vehicle isnt fun, and moving the engine rather than box isnt much better... been there , done it and got the t shirt but not an enjoyable job at all.. only do my own because i begrudge paying someone else to do it.
Sorry for sounding negative :)

Cheers Steve

Put ti this way, First time I fitted one I took the engine out and it took a week, I like to make sure everything is right beofre I refit it all and there were lots of little things wrong, leaky oil seal, crazed flywheel etc etc.

Second time I fitted a new engine and S/H box so I put a new clutch in, daft not to.

Soon after I smoked it towing somehting and it's not been as good since.

Next time the box comes out I'm going Auto.  That's how much I'm looking foreward to doing it, I never want to do it again.

p.s. big tyres take their toll out of clutches, especially when you tow a lot.

i'd say its 1 day job. i've just done one on a 1986/7 3.5 efi. If your going to attempt it yourself and why shouldnt you? make sure you bend a 14 ring spanner (using heat) so you can get the 4 bell housing bolts to the engine and remove the engine mounts / manifolds so u can lower the engine a few inches witch give you more room to work with. Its not a hard job just a painful one and i have the cut hands to prove it!

I just wanted to know how complicated really.

as I have done many clutches on cars and plenty of other bits. just nothing on 4x4s.

ill do it myself then why not. :)

honestly its not too bad, just a pain getting to the top / side bolts of the bell housing! apart from that a doddle. good luck and get the other half to bring you lots of tea!

I'd forgotten I had to bend a spanner

I think last time I did it using every socket extension I had from under the car, I was lying about halfway tot he back of the car to get in between the floor and the gearbox.

Like he said above, leave the engine mounts 'till last as you'll find the extra space a godsend, I started each bolt by hand then whent underneath with the rather unweildy set of socket extensions.
