Title: Recovery points 98 GC
Post by: CaptainColourful on April 06, 2007, 01:17:44
Any suggestions on where the best place to put recovery points are on my 98 GC ?
Would it mean taking the font bumper / rear valance off ?
Any "off the shelf" kits available ?

Have you not got a front recovery point already..should be to the left of the right fog light

At the rear think the factory one is attached to near the fuel tank? but will have been removed to allow for the fitting of a tow bar

If you want something much more robust try initially Rocky Road Outfitters or Rustys to see what they've got

Oh and Kevins Off Road as well

Thanks for input.

I do have a "recovery" point at the front yes, but its just the standard "tiedown" or "tow a short distance on the road" type, not really suitable for dragging me out of a mudhole I wouldn't have thought.

The Jeep towbar is pretty well bolted to the chassis and I wondered if anything was available that could be fitted on each side of that where its bolted through, or would the towbar crossmember be strong enough at its 3.5 ton rating ? I wouldn't have thought it was.
I will google the sites you suggest and see what they have on offer.

I don't plan on going mad and getting into deep mud, but best to be prepared eh ?

Think you'll find it will do the job...its not dissimilar to the well used XJ front recovery point

The rear tow bar should do the trick as well...have a look on the sites mentioned..stuff they might have is a bit more hard core but with what you've got you are well covered  :D

I have looked at the sites you suggested and they do have some pretty hard core stuff , maybe more than I really need.
I don't plan to get axle deep in mud ( famous last words eh ? ) so the existing one at the front plus the towbar should be ok.
