I have one in my frontera :D
Its powerfull torquey (thats a place init :? )very reliable and simple to work on, non of this electrickery thing going on.
And getting bits aint to much of a problem either
come to think of it Ive never had to buy any bits for it :?
Its a basic solid fairly powerful lump.
Taxi drivers love them to as the go forever.

Really great engine. I put one in my 90. Quieter and smoother than a 200/300Tdi and reliable. Also a lot cheaper to buy. I've got an Ally Sport intercooler and the performance is brilliant.

anyone who has put one in a 90, rangie?

You can get a coversion kit from Conversion and Precision. www.engineconversions.co.uk. They took over from Milners. Everything you need. Adapter plate, engine mounts etc. I'm well pleased with mine and after haveing an Ally Sport intercooler fitted. Well lets say it's well worth it. :D
-
Can you fit them to a ZF auto?
-
What sort of MPG do those 2.8 Isuzu's give?
The conversion is £320...surely it's cheaper to fit a 200tdi? :?
-
In my lwb frontera the 28 gives 31 mpg on a run but around town more like 27mpg.
And I do boot the old girl a bit
-
 What you get with an Isuzu is bullet proof reliability and no head or head gasket problems like you get on TDi's. Parts are cheap as well , not as cheap as LR but you don't need many. Cam belts don't go ping either !
As far as fuel consumption, I regularly get 35mpg and about 25 with big trailer on back.
One thing the Japs can make is stonking diesel engines, be it Isuzu, Daihatsu or Nissan I have one of each !

ive had 2 x 90's with suzi engines, they are by far the best small derv engine out there, powerfull, quieter, just all around better than the others.
ive just bought an old trooper due to a new crap landrover engine blowing up, for running around in.
-
I've got one in my frontera (2.8tdi) ...
i regularly get 33-35mpg out of it ..also get the utimate reliability knowing that jap engines are built to out-last the rest of the car

hi all, finally got mine in the hybrid this week, wiring it up as we speak and plumbing it all on, its so simple, im loving it, its the defender wiring room which is complicating things as there are so many wires, isuzu engine, is so simple, hopefully start it up for the first time in the landy next week.

Make sure you find the other stop solenoid ! Got mine all wired but wouldn't start ! Eventually found it had a second stop solenoid round the back of the pump, once that was wired in strated instantly.
Still going very strong, did 750 miles a few weekends a go with big Ifor on the back loaded witha rotten 90 then the chassis etc, fuel consumption 23mpg just superb. Good luck with yours.

hi, thought id post a pic of mine in now!!!! its not quite there as when i went to fit rad and fuel tank had a few monor problems so getting them all fixed at the mo!!!
yes, i found that second one in the end!!! we wondered who it wouldn't start as well when trying to do it when it was just on the chassis!!! hehe
there is also so so much space in the engine bay, its great, not like a tdi where everylittle space is taken up!!!
