Depending on the size of the CB unit you could stick it up in the drivers side map pocket...!!! I have a Team ME4 and it's small enough to fit in there quite nicely...It does bent the plastic trim slightly and you do have to run an external speaker but otherwise it's an easy install.... There is also a live and earth already up there for the electric sunroofs...!!!!!! Well there was on my 300tdi anyway...lol I don't have any pictures of it fitted but could take one if you wanted to see what it all looks like.

My inside winch control switch is mounted on the window switch pannel bewteen the window switches and the handbrake. I know its not a disco, but the interiors are pretty similar.

This was a non latching V series Carling switch with. I cut out a rectanular hole in the plastic pannel, and the switch just pushed fitted in. I wired it direct to the solenoid with piggy back terminals so that the wanderer lead could still be used if needed. From what I can see the switch and wires needs to be able to handle a current of 1.5 amps based on an Albright DC88 contactor. I used the size of the wires on the wander lead as a good indication that mine were plenty big enoguh.

I've had one pay and play which used the winch at least 8 times and the location is rather good, it was comfortable and convieniant to use. It didn't get knocked inadvertanly either.
I do however plan on wiring a latching swtich to activate/deactivate either just the in/out swicth swicth or an electric isolator repacing the manual isolator I currently have next to the battery. This manual Isolator does isolate the winch effetively, but being under the bonnet, it is inconvinient to keep turning on/off.

Where did you route it to get it to the centre console bit inside?

The winch switch was fitted a while after that last photo was taken, but you would bearly see the wires from that angle anyway.

I used 3 core flex, IIRC the cores were 1.5mm2. It runs out of the solenoid box the other side to the main power cables, along the wing and through and existing hole in the bulkhead. From their it runs inside the dash across to the side of the transmisson tunnel, along under transmission tunnel trim to behind the window switch pannel.

My CB is mounted to the back of the centre console on top of the rear tray facing up. it just about sits level with the top. its a moonraker maplins jobby. I used my redundent rear wiper and washer switches for my winch on my 200TDi you can take them apart and i have written in/out on each switch and they illuminate :). can get some pics if you are interested

As I only had a 3 door (no rear electric windows) I used the spare blanks for the winch controls.
I wired a spare electric window switch for IN & OUT and had the live feed to the switch running through an master power switch so that the controls couldn't be operated accidentally from inside the vehicle.
The power is cut off to the controls as soon as you touch the red cover as it springs closed, turning the switch to the OFF position at the same time.  ;)

I made a metal box (sheet steel bent on the side of the bench) to fit the CB to the middle of the dash along with a slide mount so it comes out quick when not needed the rubber mat goes through two slots in the sides after it's been fixed down ..Also added some drink holders while I was at it...

i have a 300tdi and my cb is mounted between the driver seat and centre console. I can rest my arm on the console and tweek the squelch button easily without having to look down.

As for switches. I found a great place the other day whilst fitting a switch for a ciggy lighter I installed in the boot. If you look under the buttons on the left of the dash for the radio volume control you will see a bit of plastic that has a rectangle shape marked out. Cut this out with a stanly knife and a Halfrauds switch fits in like a gooden. No photos yet I am afraid though. LOADS of room behind the plastic and direct access to under the dash to mount your solonoid as loads of room under the steering wheel column. The switch I bought was a lit up one max 10amps. PArt number was something like HEF510 I think.
