The seats in my 90 are tired, the runners jerk along, the vinyl is ripped and the foams are stiff. despite seat covers, they are not very comfy. Especially for Mrs Lawnmower, who drives it every day. And if she dont like it no more, then we dont have it any more!
So who has changed their seats, and what with and how much!
Trackers/exmoor trim seem to do a variety, some of which look very nice (but at up to £300 each, cant really justify it.). They also do replacement foams, and recovers, as do 'all wheel trim'.
so what are your experiances of this?
(yeah you can use seats from other vehicles, but need to be able to get to the battery easily, also have enough clearance for knees etc)
-
Well i've had bucket seats before, but they needed custom runners and was a pain getting to the battery, also getting in and out was more tricky for those shoter than me!!
In my current 90 i've got standard seats, they are the only way to retain the accessability to the battery/ecu, mine have a hint of luxury tho as they are heated :D
-
i got mine a trade place called MACRO. they cost me £99 for two with seat runners. they sell a faux leather ones now for £120.
-
Looks excellent for £99 - are they still on offer there?
-
its not an offer, its just the normal price. i havnt been in for a while but they did have loads.
-
they do look tempting, can you adjust the seat back at all?
-
Ive got rangie seats in mine. Headrests and armrests. Very comfy.
-
I have a couple of seats out of a toyota celica they just need slight modification to fit in a land rover i bought them for mine but because i haven't got a standard cubby box they where just a little bit to wide.. they adjust forwards on the back rest and are able to flick forward the drivers has adjustable height on the base and the bolster and lumber are electronicly adjustable i do have the switch as well.. if anyone is interested pm me and i'll forward pictures.. The width of the runners is almost exactly the same as land rover seats so all that need's doing is a couple of bracketts welding on to extend the runners to the land rover bolt holes.... :lol:Oh and those with a bit of injunuity could sort out something for them to locate into at the back so you only have to undo the front bolts for access to the battery etc.. :)
-
I had replacement county seats from exmoor when the 90 was rebuilt.
-
i used metro gta seats in my 88...virtually a straight fit - touch higher and loads comfier - and trugs new owner has put Gti seats in from an astra
-
herad of pople fitting metro gta seat. i've got buckets in that are bolted in place using some drilled box secion, secured to the bottom of the seat, the secured in with wing nuts.easy as pie!
-
Range Rover seats in mine too, very very comfy, proper armchair offroading
-
The main issue I have with mine, other than they need retrimming, is that they dont really support the lower back.
Rangey seats seem poplulay then. but can you still get to the battry easily?
-

yes these are the type that fold forward (if you have a 3 door car), not the type that are fixed (that you cant squeez you arse into) so they tilt forward and backwards and slide.
-
ive got the same seats as mark.yellow.series.3 in my series 3 and i have my battery bellow the pasanger seat. i mounted the seat on to a plate withe the runners stitting in some angle iron and then the seat slited back in to anothe pice of angle clamping the back edge and the front locats with some studs i holes then ive got some big clamp thingsthat clamp the front inplace.
sound complicated but it was dead easy in the series cant emagine its much differnt in a defender.

sharpshooter - how tall/large are you? I only just 6 feet tall and I'd worry that RR seats might not give enough leg room?
I fitted Volvo 340 seats to a series and they were easy to fit, really comfy and they helped tame the leaf springs too. They were heated although I never wired it up.

a thing to make sure is that when u replace the seat u can you still get to the batteries easily. it would be a pain to remove the seat to get to them

Yes! It is

I bought replacement bases from Exmoor (on offer assembled) and retrim kit for the backs, with new foam. Easy to fit, and made the seats comfortable again. Drove across Europe - 950 miles in two days, no back ache (but a bit deaf).

Nope, dont know anyone with a card, or mud club members near me come to that, and all our stuff for work is through approved suppliers, delivered straight to office.
Incidently I work in Kenilworth, and theres a Makro in Coventry.....
-
those seats are on offer at the moment for £89 (thats for two)

My boss has a Makro card! May actually go to the next staff meeting now (7.30am).
Apparantkly you need the card for entry, and when you pay. hence you cant pay with a cashcard if it someone else makro card.
Have to wait till payday to get some cash.

errrr, not strictly true - at my local Mukro, as long as you have a card, they don't seem to give a monkeys what name is on it, at the end of the day all they want is your cash ! (or credit card for that matter  )

Those seats look comfy.
I was trying to work out how to removed rust using electrolysis. Think the charger I had, had an internal cutout switch anyway.

Finally got myself to makro, seats I got were slightly different to those in the picture, cost me "85 + vat, ~ £100. Seem comfy enough. not sure how well they will survice mud, but at that price cant complain.
Included runners, and the recline, and go right forward. Will fit them in a few weeks, when have the time.

loads of us have cards, if you are passing reading you can borrow mine :) They never check the name on the card vs who is paying and I often lend mine to the guys at work.

Just fitted a pair of Citroen BX 16 Valve seats to mine, cost me £40, they are very comfy, slightly narrower runners than the existing, so I had to just drill new holes and raise the rear slightly.
The drivers side lumber also adjusts the side bolster so they are very grippy, and best of all, the base lifts out on both so you can still get the battery in and out etc.
Excuse the poor quality pic, taken with a mobile!

Stef is there enough room to still fit a cubby box in the middle?
-
Certainly is, I put an Exmoor Trim one in yesterday, I'll try to get some better pics tomorrow and post them on here.
Stef
-
I've got som espare Rangie seats if you want, leather or cloth.
-
Here are the pics with the cubby box fitted, I think there's exactly the same room as with normal seats.

I have seen the exmoor trim modulars in a 110 and they are very comfy to sit in, just like my exmoor Extreme's in the series.
The fitted seat heaters too also make it more bearable in the winter so i'm tempted to fit the heater kit to my seats.
-
Now got Discovery 2 Front seats in the Defender, Great for my resent trip to Wales. :D

They look very smart, how do they fit width wise?
-
The actual width is about the same as the original defender seats so I had no problems with keeping the Cubby Box.
-
Thats good then, no problems with the handles/shoulders and the sides of the cab??
