What's the point?, you'll never have time to play it.

Forum, or game console thingy-ma-jig?????

Never, ever used one, so shouldn't really be commenting on your desires

I'll start by saying I don't own any of them, and would probably go for an extra PC anyway (far more useful for other things).

I think to some extent it depends on the type of games that you want to play, so look to see which one has the titles that are most likely to appeal to them (or you  :D ). PS2 also has the advantage of playing DVDs (Xbox might), but gamecube uses cartridges.

Well that just about exhausts my knowledge  :D

PS2, good games, and as said can be used as a DVD player.

just been offered (free) as PS1 for the girls as my neice is getting PS" for Christmas. Apparently, PS2 comes with a camera-gizmo thingy that puts you 'inside' the game.
Whatever that means...

My lad has a PS One which we bought him last christmas. We are going to buy him a PS2 this chistmas so that he can also play DVD's and has the added advantage that he can still play all his PS1 games on it, which means we don't have to buy a load of new ones :D

The fact that a game I want needs a PS2 has nothing to do with the decision of course

I still like my dreamcast :)

The trouble with the PS2 is that whilst you *can* put Linux on it, the X support is a bit dodgy and therefore compiling and running mplayer and trhowing divX's at it tends to be a wee bit flakey.

to the best of my knowledge the X-Box support for DivX (i.e. install linux on it) is a little less dodgy ...

I think I should get myself one of them there things as a networked mp3 / movie boxen

It just so happens that theres a PS2 sitting in our bedroom ready to be wrapped up for Christmas, for the boys of course!

While we're on the subject (and I'm sure Andy will want to know this as well anyway) am I right in thinking there's a driving/rally game for the PS2 which features a Land Rover that you can drive?

Just in case the lads ask of course as I'm sure they'll want it!!

This game looks as though a certain Mr McCrae will be playing it, as well as advertising it in 2004

(Colin's not got a WRC drive for next year, so says he's having a 'year out')
