Title: 4 x 4 reliability
Post by: bilge rat on February 18, 2012, 09:47:56
now this has been mentioned im sure before, but being a bit keen on land rovers i am now starting to wonder iff or what would be a good compromise. thing is im running two disco's and have a s111 for  a project but not very often or for very long are the 2 disco's running together,i admit they both have done over 100,000 infact one is over double that,
keep looking at other marques but not sure of reliability price and availability of bits..
  thanks Alan.

any 4x4 should be reliable.

However an off roader will only be as good as the maintenance it receives divided by the abuse it receives.

When I had my scooby pickup that was forever needing sommat doing my maverick terrano was a basket case, the disco was an old car and responded to being treated as such, the 90 is a farm car but so far has only needed routine stuff. Looked after land rovers are fine they must be for 70% to still be in use.

its funny seem to go through a spell of work and repairs. then every thing calms down a bit .. i just wonderd iff there was anything more reliable , but i guess everything has its down fall.

Offroading is a killer of anything mechanical even Tanks its all about preventitive maintainence you just have to check over everything  often  and it pays you back by not having surprising breakdowns, i have owned just about every 4x4 out there and not found one thats any better than the rest  , a good thing about Landys is that the spare parts cost about a third of most other trucks ,Love em
