Title: Why Can't All Counties Be As Helpful?
Post by: Skibum346 on January 10, 2012, 18:11:52
I've been perusing some of the couty RoW websites and when I checked the Dorset (http://www.dorsetforyou.com/index.jsp?articleid=385211) one I was blown away!

First of all they have an online map available (Explorer) that can zoom all the way down to OS 1:25,000 and at the click of a mouse button you get an overlay with all the RoW on... colour coded. Very nice... shame there aint more Byways right enough but that's not really their fault.

Better yet... hover over one of the RoW and you get a little speech bubble that tells you it's definitive name, type and status (open etc).

Surely if one county has something that works... the rest could follow suit...?  Or is it just me..?!!

It would be nice if they did. We can all live in hope that the rest catch up.

The Wiltshire site is pretty good  they will also send you out the full county map with all the byways shown 370 + i think ,really helpfull people if you ring too  ,due to appeals there a few more to be added that used to be just  Bridleways  think i will give them a ring and see if they can do the same as Dorset. :azn:

Fab idea... I'll have a nosey at the Wiltshire one... Hampshire have tried but they got off to a bad start as there is no mention of motorised users on their home page. Lots of "get out there and enjoy the country" messages for walkers cyclists and the horsey set... but no mention of us!

Also... they's mapping is abysmal!
