Title: 'G-Where Have They All Gone??'
Post by: Bush Tucker Man on October 04, 2005, 22:14:29
I was out this morning over towards Peckfield Bar (http://uk.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&X=443000&Y=433000&width=500&height=300&gride=&gridn=&srec=0&coordsys=gb&db=&addr1=&addr2=&addr3=&pc=&advanced=&local=&localinfosel=&kw=&inmap=&table=&ovtype=&zm=0&scale=25000&down.x=190&down.y=4), it's on the A63 where it crosses the 'Roman Ridge Road' (A656)from Castleford.
It's the old 'Turnpike Road' from Leeds to Selby, but that's besides the point.

No the real point is, the immaculate silver 'E' plated LWB (5-door) G-wagon that I followed east towards the Boot & Shoe (& the Great North Road)

I can't remember the last time I saw a 5-door. I see a 3-door on an infrequent basis.

They have a certain unique 'charm' about them, don't they?

I do know that new ones (http://www.g-wagon.co.uk/) are available again & 'Hamster' Hammond drove on on 'Top Gear' not too long ago

Sorry, no photo.
I know, that's not like me at all

I see a 5 door in Huddersfield sometimes and a teacher at Whitcliffe Mount had a SWB but thats long gone.  They are getting thin on the ground.  Saw load of military ones in Scandinavia though (and them Volvo thingys).

I know where there's 2 of the Volvos locally (if you mean like  this one (http://community.webshots.com/photo/173144322/355832343IzyByv))This was from about 3miles away from where we previously lived & there was one on the Lane where we lived as well

Great website - no information, 2 links and the first one gives a 404 error.  Maybe it's my browser.

Aren't they hideously expensive, or am I thinking of something else?

As that one was an AMG version, costing silly money but went off-road faster than my poor old diesel goes on-road!

Not your fault, but it doesn't really encourage me to get my wallet out, if their damn website doesn't even work.
