Title: What brake setup
Post by: Mikieb1981 on September 22, 2011, 17:32:12
Hi folks,

Currently rebuilding my 1989 2.5 td 90 with my old  94 200tdi disco as a doner.

Going to fit the disco axles to the 90 and wondering what master cylinder servo etc to go with??

Should I just pipe up to the existing 90 or replace with the complete disco set up??

Or something else entirely?

Thoughts and comments please!

Mike

I know two people who have disco rear axles with disks on them in 90's using the original master cylinder.  Both say that the rear axle locks before the front.  I have driven one of them and thought it was lethal, the guy who owns it says he has got used to it. The MOT tester doesnt like it, but passes it.  The other one has fitted a rally car brake bias valve which has cured the issue.

Thanks thats sounds like an issue! wonder if the disco setup would sort it. Hopefully someone will be along that knows!

Think i might as well see if disco setup will fit my 90's been stood parked up on a farm for the last 5 years so all seals will be shot and need doing which is half way to changing it anyway!

The 90 uses the same castings and piston as the Disco, some bigger Defenders had bigger callipers, not sure if it's 110s or 130s though :undecided:

The RRC and Disco had a deceleration valve on the inner wing below the master cylinder to prevent the lethal braking, you need to get the angle correct but it's easy to plumb one is as it goes in-line with the rear circuit. You could tune it by altering the angle if you have time to mess around I guess.
