Yep, I carry a hand saw. It really is all about reading the terrain!

if they had approached at the opposite angle there would have been little or no damage,
what ever happened to route selection?

I get the distinct impression that there are people out there who just enjoy breaking stuff. At least it's their own stuff rather than a park bench or bus shelter, but still, do they really have cash to throw away like this?

This video doesn't exactly give us a good image either, does it? I mean, we know that there are probably fifty or more sensible people for every one or two of these wallies, but videos like this don't help our reputation as a whole...

TBH im actually a bit insulted by you lot,

some times you aint got no choice but to rub on the woodwork, i for one accept it as part n parcel & dont worry about it, take the TFC for example, if i was worried about rubbing trees i wouldnt have even completed the first section

then again most of you lot who are moaning appear to spend your weekends driving green lanes, thats your choice but dont moan about others who use there vehicles a bit more close to the limit

I guess it was probably a bit of a "red mist, I can do it" moment that seemed like a good idea at the time.  Probably did'nt seem quite so clever the next morning...

Mike ... that didn't look like a competition or a challenge - in fact it looked like a lane to me. However as I do not know where it was, I can think that ripping the roof of a D1 is not a good idea - however you play it. I'm sure there was another choice....

In competition/challenge then yes - damage is with the territory :)

P.S. Mine is dented from saying hello to tree's too - but not THAT dented ;-)

In my own car i wouldn't have gone under that tree but it looks quite obvious that this guy has brought the disco purely for off road fun
And why not

From the quarry shot in the middle and the general demeanor of the place I was taking it as a private site.  If it's a private site then as far as I'm concerned they can do what they want to their trucks!  And if it's a green lane, I'd much rather they damaged their trucks than cut the tree down.  But it doesn't look like a green lane to me anyway.

Interesting responses, don't you think?

What I would say is that like statistics, anti's will pick footage as suits there arguments, no matter where it was filmed.
We could give full details of the P&P site it was filmed at, but they will forget to include that when they show it at their rallies, instead stating that, "this is what is being done to our countryside", or some other total tripe.
But hey let's not get too down, after all it's nearly xmas.

Ok sorry that probably didn't help 8)

Got to agree with that, whilst no crime is being commited we are so open to public criticism and no-one is giving us the chance to air our side.  We have to be very mindfull that people with nothing better to do all day than bitch are looking over our shoulders.

Not nice but that's the world we live in.  Keep it in mind with things you do and say in public places like this, no need to be nasty to each other, we are all on the same side

the tree is on a green lane that we can no longer drive, the clip was taken early last year.
you can't just go cutting trees down just because you can't get past it!

Really? I though if they were blocking a right of way you could :?

Ask a rambler, they seem to know everything about blocked rights of way, build a ghouse on one and they still insist on walking through rather than round.

From the Information Pack:  Public Rights of Way by the Communications Service, Gloucestershire County Council, March 2004

"You may remove enough of an obstruction on a public right of way to get by or else you may take a short detour to get around it, but be careful not to trespass on another owner's land."

And let's keep in mind that I'm an American living in Japan.

Maybe I have a little TOO much free time.

When we went to bala last with chris9119 on a laning day I got my disco alpine window and gutter leaning against a tree but I was going very very slow and managed after some advice from others in the group to turn into the bank towards the tree and lift the window off . 8) without damage .

However a 90 in the group behind us was not so lucky I think there is a lot to be said for picking your route and having spotters on tight bits

this is taking tree hugging to a new level £1000 motor or £20 saw = £ 20 saw every time or find another way round
