I dislike them as its a Disco 1 at the end of the day not a wanna be D2...
(Obviously all to their own...)

Looks good apart from the top outboard corner...looks like the lights are squared off but the wing is rounded.

However, probably very expensive to replace if you break one off road, so not for me thanks!  I think 300 lights suit the vehicle very well anyway.

I know a couple of people who've done this and they are, apparently, a complete sod to fit. One of those wished he'd never started it and the other, though pleased with the results, said he'd never do another. Genuinely not worth the effort.

In fairness, although it appears to have scrubbed up well, I know the owner and I've seen him use it in anger. He was a recovery marshall at Abingdon for a few years.

firstly, why would you spend 28k on our landie with off road bolt on's and then NOT take it off road

Not many headlight swaps are easy to do  I've only had my 4x4 for a year now & before that I was into modded hot hatches & to be honest it's 2 different worlds      I like the look of the swap & think it gives the disco an up to date image. If nothing else people will take a second glance at it because it's not the norm

Ive just put a disco 2 front end (early version) onto my disco 1 and while it looks better it simply isnt worth the effort.

Nothing lines up everything needs trimming or cutting, even to the point of shaving some off the indicator bulb holders!!! Pics will follow when its back on the road..............

I said i wasnt going to do this but which part of 'pics to follow when its back on the road' did you not understand???

Mate just slow down, relax and read things through and think about what your typing and how other people feel about typing.Do this and i think you will have a lot more friends on here and get a lot more help. Please take this as advice and not having a go.

HIDS are anothe kettle of fish. HID lights MUST be self levelling adding a whole load of other problems to the mix.

Although i hated with a passion the 200tdi front end, i really dont think its worth the hassle or expense for what even with the best job in the world, looks like a bumped front end... a great philosopher, i think it was popeye, once said "i am what i am"

...and after having owned a 200 for the last few months, i`m actually startting to like the simple layout... slip in some philips (£££) supervision bulbs, and they arent that bad really..... give them a good rub down, maybe a fresh coat of black paint, and they dont quite look as bad.

has anyone tried painting (i`ve seen the yelow one!) with any good results?

....recall seeing a defender inspired disco headlight arrangement aswell somewhere, but google has failed me!

what ever you do with the original 200 tdi style lights they still look like there off a 1970s car!

Indeed
I have a 300 Tdi and fitted early shape Td5 head lights (which have much better chrome bowls than the 300 shape)
The lights are the same shape and size and are a direct replacment for the 300 head lights
before
(http://members.mud-club.com/galleryimages/2d2be04737f5aee5f8a32f676cfbbeba.jpg)
after
(http://members.mud-club.com/galleryimages/4b05a8d596d84048a61b6d1a7859bd0c.JPG)
To increase the light i have since fitted an uprated head light loom and performance bulbs
I considered this all to be far easier than the hassle of fitting late Td5 headlights
I've not had to cut the wings, reshape the slam panel or worry about ill fitting grills

i did have angel eye versions... they cost me a small fortune when they first came out..... they were made of glass then too ( unlike now they are made of plastic ). i went in to a water ford at night and the glass went pop on both lights.....

so i am now running wipac crystal light units    i can wade as deep as i like now

Defender lights in my opinion dont look good on RR/Discos but If a change is required (i.e. Bobtailing) then the NAS spec light looks quite good.

to be honest bud i did agree with that after i did the change     . for about 2 months i couldnt make up my mind if i liked t or now. but grew to like them. at night they ake such a difference over the old 200 tdi ones. but i suppose the 300 ones are loads better too

I must say, i'm not a big fan of the round head lights but with the range of new lights you can fit in the round hole, they are quite apealing.
Wipac Crystal's, IPF sport bowls and so on.
Very bright
