Title: Temporary fix to Viscous Fan
Post by: Kenny on July 27, 2004, 14:34:53
Thrasher mentioned a way to effect a temp repair on the coupling so that it spins all the time.

Basically out the other day, fine until I climb a steep hill then watch the gauge go up. Get to the level again and starts to go down. Got home after 15 miles can could spin the fan quite easily with one finger. Good guess ?

Any ideas what to do that does not involve me taking too much apart.

TIA

The quick and dirty fix is to take the fan hub off - Draper do a wrench big enough for the bolt.

Then drill a couple of holes right through the middle and whack a couple of big bolts through it.

Baically, there is a disc that spins inside the housing that should lock up when you've put the bolts in.

Watch out of the oil though, heat the hub up and let it all drain out, or else it'll get spun all over the enigne bay and cause you a minor panic then you find it.
