Hi Guys do you think 35/1050/16 tyres will be ok on a set of 16/10 wheels?? or should they be bigger???? :wink:

you can put them on 16/8 wheels so 16/10 should be fine
i have 36 x12.5 x 15 on 15/10 wheels with a -22 offset

Well I have heard conflicting stories. because bronco said they would be ok :? Then my mate said I should of gone for 1250 instead as the1050 will look crap.... :oops: :oops:

I take it you know that the standard ratio transfer box on the Disco will struggle to pull away and will only get you to about 65mph with 35" tyres on! :wink:
Or have you already got plans to change the transfer box or both diffs? :D
Oh, and this is mine on 33x12.5R15's with a +2" lift :wink:

id go 12.5 no point with 10.5 they will look really skinny

Depends really thou on the application, yes they may look skinny but they will be better in mud than a wider tyre.

Lee that is one school of thought. I dont think 2inches makes that much difference. mine works as well as my mates on various different widths of tyre.

Are we sure about that?
I've always thought narrower tyres are better at cutting through the slop to find grip on the harder stuff below the mud. Wide tyres can 'float' over the slop.
Depends on the type of mud and underlying surface really. No hard and fast rules I think.
Wide tyres generaly look better though . . . . . more the part :lol:

Bigger wider tyres = more time fixing too
was watching Jonathon with his simex and they find grip some how in places other wouldn't touch, so having bigger tyres don't always help but having the right tread pattern makes for the terrain you want to conquer makes more of a difference.
But just carry lots of spares with you :wink:

was the same about 10yrs ago when a few of us had rs turbo's xr3i's soon as winter came off came the alloys&wideys and on the standard rims with thin tyres on, i never got stuck once !!!
must be the same for mud baths etc... thinner tyres normally do the trick

i got to stick to my guns on this one.
lots of the new harvesting machines used by the forestrys adopt the same principle.
the tracks or tyres are made a lot wider.
with some of the american machines the weight is transferred so well over the traction areas that a 24 ton harvester has roughly the same surface pressure as a man.

Well we need to agree to differ. It's down to the application you apply the vehicle to in my opinion. Stick carlos fandago tyres on big rims and you will float great. Floating great across mud isn't what you want to be doing because you can sit there all day even with lockers fitted and have all four wheels spinning in the soup. Narrower tyres cut through the soup and get to any materials able to provide traction much quicker.
Floatation tyres are great on sand, which there ain't alot of in the UK but smashing if your in the sahara.
Wide nobbley tyres are again great on loose rock to find some purchase but stick them on a smooth road surface and the narrow tyres again win hands down for grip.
Looking across the driveway currently my widest tyres are 9.00x16's of the 101. It's the last vehicle I'd take out on Slush Sooner try my luck in the Laguna.
All that aside Wider tyres do look good. But looks aint everything when you look an arse as a CV2 cruises past. Been there and got the T-shirt

Lee , you need a bigger engine or a heavier right foot! As for wider tyres being worse on tarmac , how? F1 cars would all have pram tyres if what you are saying is true...maybe you should tell Shooey thats where he went wrong this season.
Anyway enough of the mines better, luck is a major deciding factor a foot one way or another could spell disaster or triumph...or is that skill in reading the ground?

No, and it will only get to a max speed of about 70mph & your speedo will read about 8mph slow. :wink:
There are three real choises:
1. Live with it.
2. Change the transfer box for one out of a TD5 Defender with a 1.4:1 ratio. This gives you back your pull-away & top speed, means you can do 30mph in 4th (instead of 3rd) and you don't have to change down when you see a hill. On the down side the engine revs more than normal and uses a little more fuel + the Low box is standard throughout the range so this is left slightly over geared for hill decents when offroad.
3. Change both fornt & rear axle diffs for 4.11:1 ratio. This is the best option as it will alter both high & low range but costs more that the transfer box swap unless you build the diffs yourself.

I when for the transfer box replacement after fitting 33x12.5R15 but I fitted a +3" lift, wheel spacers, +2" bumpstops and fender flares to stop the tyres hitting anything. :wink:

I know the chaps from W&H Wheelcarriers and they made them for me.
They used their standard pattern but I gave them the dimensions for the reduced overall length to fit the wheelarch flares. :wink:
They earned their money in Belgium!! :D

I wouldn't so much say W&H Wheelcarriers were "mates", more like people I normally meet at Billing and once at Belgium. But they do a good job and the bars are galvanised then coated.
I fitted them using stainless nuts & bolts so nothing should corrode on them. :D

Heavier right foot then, just taken a 4.2 Jag lump from the IIa just not enogh throttle ... :D
I was thinking aquaplanning but I see yer point for every other tarmac application but for Ice.
Mines defo not better and I know it, I'll shurrup now. :)

no worries Lee, those rally boys and ice racers have V special tyres for that application. I have no idea how they do what they do. I have to say mine are great when you drop the pressures as Chugga says you get a great footprint....and with a heavy right foot they cut through.
Fingers which Silverstones did you get? The simex copies? what made you pick them over simexes?

I went for the Silverstone Extreme :P :P Bronco sold me 5 for £600 :D
I did ring linda at Devon 4x4 but the Simex she quoted were a lot more
for the same style ..So i will try them and if there crap then i know not to buy them again :P :P

That sounds like a decent deal, i enquired but I think when they first had them in and there wasnt much saving on simexes. There is no doubt for extreme stuff they are the best but i just couldnt live with them full time(im too lazy to keep swapping!).

Yeah that front wing looks really stylish!NOT! And as for the impotent wing mirror looks like a good day out...but the question is is that road legal?? I doubt it very much . the icelandic guys ride around in 44 inch stuff all the time. They had that level of kit including GPS when your average brit still asked what a satelite was!
I was fortunate enough to spend 10 days over there in winter 9 years ago and would recommend it to anyone. The people are great , very friendly and you will see more trick 4x4's in Reykjavik parked in the streets than at any show in the UK.

thats not in iceland,i forgot to add its in dubai,
spoke to him the night & was telling me its in for a few mods to get the 42's on,
BTW he did the wing & mirror last time out playing with it :wink:

I knew it wasnt the UK as he would have been pulled for the front wing first cop that spotted him not to mention if he had been out here it would have been covered in Crap!. 42's are a damn big tyre . I wouldnt even consider them for the uk the cost of mods along with the dire fuel economy they owuld return! Dubai is prob the best place to live...very cheap gas so i understand.
