Title: 110 Roofrack
Post by: bonio73 on May 11, 2007, 20:19:29
Just acquired this, free, from work!  (Not the Javelin missile case!) It was in a building that was being cleared out for this weekends Ten Tors event.
-"If it's not claimed in the next 10 mins, it's going to the scrappers!"
-"Don't do anything with it, I'll go and get my wagon! Please don't do anything yet!"
Ten minutes later + panic = free roof rack!  Yay!

The question I have is that due to this freebie being a little bit rusty, and not wanting to look a gift horse in the mouth, what is the best way of renovating it to it's former glory?

Do I-
1.  Do it on the cheap, get rid of the original plasticoat, treat the rust and spray it, or
2.  Send it to someone local (Okehampton - any suggestions on a name?) who can strip it back and re-coat it in a new plasticoat?
3.  Any other methods welcome!

Help please! [-o<

Wire brush , rust treatment , krust or whathave you, and hammerite.

It'll rot from the inside out eventually so don't bust a gut. As long as it looks good it is good... no one notices brush marks at that height but if it bothers you that much use a roller.
