Title: 1966 built, 1976 first registered ex army short wheel base truck cab, tax exempt
Post by: mattyme on July 30, 2010, 21:58:28
my boss at work has just bought the above vehicle, the bodywork is ok, the engine runs sweet as a nut, the 4WD works well as do the free wheeling hubs. the chassis is a pile of rot to be honest but nothing a new chassis from paddocks wont cure! the clutch need some attention as it seems to engage the drive slowly... maybe it just needs a good drive about. the brakes have been cleaned up and freed off as they were seized and work well for drums.

the headlights are in the centre, not in the wings. does that make it a series 2 or 2a?

what i want to know is would anyone be interested in buying it and if so what would the going price be for such a vehicle? i realise it would be difficult to value without pictures but a ball park figure would be good...

Classic enthusiast. Still plenty around. Sounds like a S2. There is a Landrover Series 2 Club (http://www.series2club.co.uk) which may be able to help somewhat more on the specialist side :D

its definately project material!! lol

i find it amazing that it was built in 1966, has been stood in a field for 4 years and still runs as sweet as a nut!!

built in 66 makes it a 2a (unless it's an I.D. swappa/Bitsa), i think the Series 2 ended in 63 ...

without pictures and more information 25quid sounds like a fair price   but realistically i'd guess at anywhere between

well if its going for spares and the gearbox is good ill have that....oh and along with an inner splash panel for the inside of the right wheel arch......has it got parabolics or solid leafs on it? oh and does it have the drop down tailgate as i need the bolts for both the eyelets on the tailgate? Canvas roof? if so i mite have that off you as well =D just a few things i need that popped into my head.

other than that it does sound like a s2 but the year does point toward a 2a.

Probably not too far from me.
Any chance of taking a look at it?

 Pete.
