Hello all, first post here so i thought i,d post up some pics of my bobtail i,v built as a replacement for my old rotter of a 300tdi disco :)
i rescued this from a scrapyard 9 months ago it was a stolen recovered one and had a pretty good shell as far as discoverys go but i still ended up replacing inner and outer sills, inner wings boot floor etc , shel was then sandblasted before paint and the chassis as you will see i have had galvanised for the bargain price of £110! first few pics are after we started stripping it stilll on the trailer :D

Thanks :D.......and no thanks....my welder and sprayguns are having a holiday after that marathon!!
-
My shell is actually pretty good really, but i'd really like it to be Really nice..... and last a bit longer than it will if nothing is done to it..... it's a 98 3dr.... and there is the start of corrosion in places...... there's even a small hole in the chassis right near the front susp arm mount, goodness knows how it got an mot 2 months ago!!
-
sorry ron you,r still not tempting me!! ;)
-
Oh well.. your loss...LOL!!!
thanks for showing us your beast!!!

Thanks for the positive comments guys
chris that looks like a really good rebuild :)
still waiting on the fuel tank arriving, and a pair of optima batterys, not sure where to mount them as i have lifted the front of the inner wings to match the angle of the rear of the front inners for tyre clearance (hope that makes sense  )
need to wire up the winches and rear ARB locker, so a few little jobs left but i have had it out on the road :-# done a couple of miles and it feels reaaly good, hoping to have it mot,d by end of next week and hopefully a shakedown on my local offroadsite before i do drumclog with it next month :)
oh and for anyone thinking this will never get used properly because its so clean underneath.....think again...my last disco was seriously abused...i,v said i wont do the same to this...but body panels are so easy to change...plus i have 8 discos i am breaking so have plenty spares
i have some more build pics i will post up later if anyone is interested :D
-
"i HATE bobtails i would never have my disco bobtailed they look ****" was my reply to anyone who wanted one
"have you seen the one on mud club it awesome thinking of having mine done" will be my reply from now on
top job mate send me a pm when your welder and sprayguns get back of there hols

-
OK well if nobody is going to ask the obvious question I'll ask it...
Where did you get the chassis galvanized and what did you have to do to it by way of preparation?
-
LOL@the little britain pic
the chassis was shotblasted at my local blasters to remove all the paint before taking it for galvanising, it was done at forfar galvanisers, they need the chassis left with them for a couple of days :)
the eagle eyed amongst you will notice the extra strenthening around the rear trailing arm brackets and the 2" box welded to the front to lift the bumper up to match the body lift :D
-
Nice build Bob, and thanks for sharing the pics
-
Ahh nuts... if they are located in Forfar then that's toooooo far away.
-
WOW i love the truck mate the white detailing looks so damn cool
-
very smart, looks way to good to off road!
-
That looks really sweet! How much have you taken out the back? Is it on 35's?
-
Cheers guys, yes it is on 35" simex, with 2" body lift and 3" suspension lift, its had 13" chopped out of the back :D been busy with other things but managed to get it out the workshop today after rebuilding the front axle with castor correction swivels all new bearings seals etc, gave it a try on the forklift to check tyre clearance and all seems fine..will give it a propper testing next weekend after i mot and tax it next week, just need to wire the winches and rear arb locker in now and its ready to get muddy  heres some more pics :D

oh, and that my promise to wifi that i wont cut mine up is looking less and less truthful ;) ;)
-
jonny, just get it cut up ;)
well thats it all done, had it over my local bing for 20 mins tonight just to give it a bit of a shakedown, everything seems perfect, first time i have used an auto offroad and it is superb, was a little worried about engine braking but its ok with it in 1st gear and just covering the brakes :D
mot tomorrow morning.....
will stick some muddy pics up after the weekend
-
cant wait to see mucky pics of your weekend...
I have plans... ;) although have to get wifi her disco first, then i am free to do as i wish.. (just dont tell her..)
-
im with you on that one jonny ramrod every time it looks so good .
so jonny ramrod what plans you got in mind then?
-
they involve 'big dave' (my large angle grinder..), 4 bucket seats and harnesses...(so the kids can enjoy it too..)
And a whole load of work.. It will be shorter and higher when finished..
-
lol :)
got any pics of the landy now?
-
this is it, coming down 'the steps' in north wales..

totally standard, except for its gas conversion. Lift is coming later this week, then the 31x10.5x15 tyres can go on.. so should look a little better.
winch and bumper is next, then snorkel etc.. But until we get another disco for family and daily use, then i cant go to mad with it..
-
well thats it got a years mot and tax, failed on a couple of little things, headlamp aim..obviously knew that would need set , front washers werent squirting enough water...i had the front and rear washer motors mixed up...i had noticed a couple of weeks ago but forgot to swap the wires over  and a side repeater stopped working for its test
so ready to go for a play on sunday
-
ACE.............
well done that man.... bet your all excited now
-
well got out for a play today, we were out for around 5 hrs at our local offroad site, i am amazed how much better the auto seems to work offroad compared to my old manual disco
only little niggle today is the arb locker compressor was kicking in every 30 seconds by the end of the day..no obvious air leaks in the line so i,m thinking maybe the seal on the arb unit its self? :? :?
