Title: Rear Diff. / Final Drive
Post by: Gordo on July 21, 2009, 13:05:49
I have a leak from my rear diff, and as it's from the front I assume it's the prop shaft seal that's gone.

As there's no oil spots on the drive, I assume it isn't leaking horribly, but before I drive it any distance I want to check the oil level and top-up if necessary.

Having crawled underneath, there isn't a lot of room in about the plug and I don't have a tool to fit the square recess in the plug.

Does anyone happen to know what tool I need to get it undone? Is it 3/8" drive (I know it's bigger than 1/4" and smalled than 1/2"!)

Sounds like oil seal has gone .... cheap & eassy to replace and would advise doing it before you tpo up....will only get worse with time

Yes, it was the oil seal.

I've had it replaced (a right pig of a job!) and all seems well. Just need to wash the oil off the exhaust because it still smells  :ner:
