Title: I miss my...........
Post by: Bush Tucker Man on July 30, 2003, 00:32:09
I miss my 110Tdi, and;

Rescuing JEEPS at Tong

Wading deep enough at Tong to get the father-in-laws plaster cast wet

33mpg average

80mph on Welsh mountain roads

95mph (indicated) on a deserted M62

Pulling up outside JCT600 (Leeds Aston Martin & Bentley dealer) and  watching the sales-man agonizing over asking me to move it, just in case I was a rich (!?) farmer/contractor coming to buy one

Going to weddings in to & getting stared at

Terrifying even taxi-drivers by putting the green 'P' plates on it, and taking a (empty) horse trailer onto Armley Gyratory in the rush-hour

I don't miss;

It being white (bad colour choice)
Replacing all the wheel bearings after getting the father-in-laws cast wet
Being mistaken for Mountain Rescue in Borrowdale (Honister Pass)

I miss my 90CSW-V8, because;

It scared the 'bejesus' out of boy-racers if you did it right

It scared BMW drivers even more. Heh, heh, heh!!

It sounded good, though not as good as a TVR Griffith. Or any American V8

LPG running costs

The condition ( 13years old & a genuine 32,000miles)

I don't miss';

Shire Blue paint (bought on condition)
LPG running costs (9-15mpg)
Getting it set up properly on LPG

I'd have another one right now, but it'd have to be my dream late model (S plate) 110Tdi CSW in Conistone Green.
Fancy having a look at one with a GMC6.2 V8 diesel fitted though

I miss my 90TD, D415 SMB. A hard top converted by me with rear windows and seats etc.
I never even knew until I tried to trade it in after a few years, that it was actually an insurance write off. It was always a great vehicle and never showed any faults from a dodgy rebuild so I guess it had been done right.
The turbo diesel engine had masses of low down torque coupled with fairly low gearing and felt able to pull just about anything, anywhere in any gear. It felt more tractable than the 300Tdi in my Discovery, but it did used to run out of breath once the speed rose.
It was a proper Land Rover though and didn't have the same supermarket shopping trolley/school bus image.  :D

Dyf,

All the oil-burners here have emigrated to Pembrokeshire now. Hope you were telling the truth about FREE diesel or they'll be back to lynch ya  :lol:  :lol:

I miss my Stage 1 V8.

(http://homepage.ntlworld.com/stage1v8/Resources/Orange%20Stage1.JPG)

Because:
It had loads of character
It had loads of grunt
It had covered a genuine 32000 miles and was mint
It was my wedding car and got me on TV as a result  :lol:

I don't miss:
7-8mpg on my 2.5 mile journey to work!
The thought of having to replace increasingly hard to find parts
