Is it possible to fit bigger tyres without going for more lift by cutting the arches away? The yanks seem to do alot of body cutting on there's.

Thanks, but I have 30" at the moment and would like to go bigger than that if possible, 32"+,  as I have had problems in deep ruts with the diff catching.

If you go bigger than 30 " your gonna have to extend the bumpstops, start triming fenders ect and winding out the steering stops. also your getting into regearing territory even with a 4 litre. My advice is save yourself some money. I've got places people with more heavily modded jeeps have had trouble simply by taking it steady and picking a good line, I run a 2" lift with 235/75/15 MTs. Have you got any disconnects yet? If not get some, they are the single best mod for an XJ.

With the stock gearing on a 4.0, you'll not want to go bigger than 31", you'll have no power left. Also bear in mind that the Dana 35c on the back of your cherry isn't the strongest axle ever made, and with tyres over 31", you'll wreck your halfshafts without a super 35 or equivalent axle upgrade to get some strength.
I'm sure bishops finger and isle of man would agree with me and urge you to ask the same question on Birty's, there are quite a few XJ owners over there who will be more than happy to help.
