Well i drove the zil for the first time on wednesday to a mates yard to fit the back body i got off e-bay, what a beast to drive, got a few vibrations upto 60 ks, then it all went very well, im told the russians never balenced the props, so i might get them off and done, had her up to 100ks, then crused at 80ks, pleanty of power, and pleanty of funny looks going down the M6
Will post a few pics as i get the body mounted
-
Looking forward to the pics :D

Found The pics i took,

Got a few more somwhere if i can find them, the body is only placed on at the min, im going over today to make up some body mounts to raise the body so i still get full axle atriculation, which is about 9 inches !
As its tands now the body is 14 foot 4 ", and it hangs over way to far, was going to cut the bed down and beaver tail it, but i dont think it would look right, so im going to chop off 3foot and reweld the raer x member back on to the bed, as long as i can get my disco and bessie on the back thats all i need,
Gave the chassis 4 coats of chassis black before the body went on, easier to paint when its not in place, ive got hold of another cab, so im going to prep and paint it, then swap it over,
-
The extra heigh on the bed should get you a nice departure angle too
-
Thats true, and with the rear chopped off a bit even better, ive got sides and a tail gate to go on too, also the guy gave me a set of canvas hoops, will need to find a company to make me a cover,
-
Been looking at the same for my mog. Seems that sail makers are the most economic place to get tilts made up on that scale.
-
Just found a pic of my very zil in scotland about 10 years ago, look a bit different there, and still with its decontamination tank on the back,
(http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk211/mrmservices/zil_at_the_beach_010.jpg)
This is the look im thinking of
(http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk211/mrmservices/Zilbody02.jpg)
Or maybe make it as a crewcab?

More like the russians watched thunder birds lol
-
I've seen some video of one of those somewhere. You hear one engine crank into life..... then the other  Then it was tearing around a field. I think it was a russian surplus company in the UK that had the footage on their web site.
-
Well i was going to rip out the massive V8 as i got it as a non runner, but after fixing the seized dizzy and got it running, oh how could i loose that V8 rumble, they do sound fantastic,
-
Sounds like that'll be an expensive mistake. Sluuuuuurrrrrrrp there goes another gallon of petrol.
