As it was a decent day & I still have a couple of days of freedom left (before SWMBO returns) I decided to have a trip to 'Foreign Shores'.
You know the thing; sneak in & out undetected :D
So after a drawn-out crawl through Bradford (as slow as ever), but a first-ever trip on the new Bingley Relief Road (well done Bradford Council :) , now just by-pass Shipley)
Keighley was reached in good time. Skipton was bypassed.
As I passed through Coniston Cold a flash of (Tangiers) Orange (http://community.webshots.com/photo/139093170/1168496748047309372vwjoSC) caught my eye.
I'd forgotten it was there; the Yorkshire outpost of the 'Land Rover Experience'
So even though standing at the side of the A65 is not one of my favourite things to do I took a few photographs for you all (http://community.webshots.com/album/139093170YKAUAV/1).
- I think Andy will want the G4 Range Rover-
A few nice roadside articles really deserved photos couldn't be taken, as traffic & a lack of any suitable parking negated any chances; like the little stone aquaduct carrying the Leeds & Liverpool Canal over a beck at Gargrave.
Reaching Kirkby Lonsdale brings you to within about 12miles of the Irish Sea at Morecambe Bay, so a left turn in that direction was taken.
Shortly I was sitting on the packed promenade watching the world pass by & shaking my head in disbelief at the ruination of the Midland Hotel.
Still according to the Tourist Information office, a consortia have bought it & are going through the process to restore & renovate this 'Building Of National Architectural Importance'
Can't come soon enough.
I was also shocked by the dereliction causd by the closure & presumed collapse of parts of the 'Fun-Land' on the promenade - a real eye-sore!
It isn't too long ago that Morecambe was more important than Blackpool & attracted over 70,000 vistors a week to stay in the hotels, guest & boarding houses.
Times change.....
Only kidding, I have the greatest respect for anyone who (freely) admits to being born in, or living in, Lancashire
Fred Dibnah for Prime Minister!!!!

Go up & have a look yourself Andy, it's right at the side of the A65 between Skipton & Settle. All the photos on 'WebShots' were taken from the road-side.
Coniston Cold (http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&GridE=-2.1487&GridN=53.9910&lon=-2.1487&lat=53.9910&db=freegaz&lang=&addr1=&client=public&addr2=&advanced=&addr3=&pc=&quicksearch=coniston+Cold&scale=100000&cidr_client=none&place=Coniston+Cold,North+Yorkshire)
I assume that the area there is simply a familiarisation area & the woods around the estate form most of the 'Experience'
You can always combine it with a trip to Ingleton & have a walk up Inglebrough (nice cafe in Ingleton as well; 'Bernies')
Or the 'Dalesman' cafe in Gargrave

Scary, isn't it.
My youngest is 5 soon, never been in my V8 because it's waiting for a gearbox.
