Title: Exporting to the Channel Islands
Post by: 3laner on April 16, 2008, 18:25:13
A guy from the Channel islands has made me an offer on my truck. I have said that I will need to see proof of address to put  on the V5 and be payed by cash or a bankers draft which I will get checked by a bank. Are there any implications to me of him taking the car back to the channel islands.  How else can I be cautious?

Alex

If he turns up at your house with a bag full of cash then i wouldnt care what he writes on the log book as long as when i send it off its not in my name.

You may need to check with Customs about selling the car to someone in the Channel Islands. There may be tax implications.

Assuming it's a private sale and the buyer is sorting all the export documantation, it should be just like any other sale. It is up to the buyer to ensure he has all the export documentation in place.

If you are exporting it and charging the costs on, you should talk to Customs & Excise first. They will help with what is needed.

I would choose the former. Let the buyer sort it all out.

the buyer should know much more about it than any of us anyway. i should imagine they do it all the time people on the channel islands.

spoke to dads friend who is big in the car business and his son sold his Land Rover to the Channel Islands. The sale is taking place in England so there are no implications to me as the seller. Its weird thinking shes going to be all the way over there!Seems the defender is the vehicle to have over there as after lots of research have found lots of people selling Landys to go there!
Will let you know how the sale goes on sunday!

aye i think selling to and from the channel islands is not the same as selling to france so the export thing shouldnt be an issue.

think about it when you buy from tesco's website (in terms of dvd's and so forth) they come from tesco jersey... err i think!

That's so they can offer them VAT free and keep the price down. Imports to the UK under £18 are duty free. The Channel Islands fall outside the EU for tax purposes.
