Hi all,
does anyone know where I can get a set of wheels balanced, I live in the Birmingham / Warwickshire area, I have beed to 2 garages now and none of them have a centre boss big enough to hold the rim.
The rims are just modulars
Any ideas

Try a place that deals with van and truck tyres, ats often have the equipment to do this

Van and truck probabaly right. We have a balancer at work but with the same problem, I always have to pay to get my tyres balanced. I priced the adapter thinking it might be cheaper than a few sets balanced (its only a metal cone thing with a threaded hole) and it was over £100!
Sod that then...

I had that problem with my Terrano, the guy who fitted the new tyres on my car had the same problem, bosses were not big enough.
Took it to my local "We do all type of tyres" and they got it sorted for a drink!

You must all live too far south!
Never once had a problem with getting any sort of wheels ballenced up here. :D

Na, no problem down here.
The cones can by made up quite easily on a lathe anyway, bigger problem is some wheels centres are too shallow for some balancers, modulars certainly need a shallow angle cone, though I prefer using stud mounting balancers for some types with ecentric/odd shaped centre holes.

Never had a problem with the Disco, but the 101 (20" rims, 41" tyres) was a bit more tricky - just to replace the tyres, never mind balancing them. I had to replace all 8 tyres; I did a few myself (tyre levers, bottle jack & 5 tonne truck to break the bead and a few buckets of sweat) but then took the rest down to Challenger, who had a machine bigger than any of the local tyre places. Didn't bother with balancing though, I'm not sure they were really balanceable!
