a cv joint when nackerd will click on full lock,
a diff wil just give up without any warning
you sure it isnt a worn u/j ?
drain the diff oil off if it makes you feel better tho
brown..is ok
clear ep90 colour..good
grey.....oh dear
white....your getting water in big time !

your diff will be 24 spline so you will require another 24 spline
how ever a rear disco 24spline diff uses a rubber coupling and is a 3bolt flange, so that will require changing
best bet is to find aother front 24spline diff, or a rear 24spline diff from a 90
yes they will fit from front to back ect to answer your question

When was the last time you greased the u/j's ?
I had a similar noise on taking up drive, but cured it with copious amounts of grease pumped through as the joints were dry.
