Hi all
Do jeep cherokees have any locking diffs?
-
Yes.
You can fit an auto locker on the front axle - but unless you can get hold of a set of manual hubs for the front axle, a bad idea.
That leaves manual lockers,
You've arb, ox, and detroit and a couple of other makes.
Have a look on ebay.com and you looking for dana 30 and dana 35 parts.

Check Quadratech and 4wd hardware as well

cheers

Oh should say, auto locker in the back end is fine, but be careful with the dana 35, it's not known for strong axle tubes.
-
so does it have a locker in the rear diff as standard?
neither the front or rear diff lock on mine when in 4 low
-
Depends on the model, but some have a limited slip diff in the rear, a good traction aid on snow or wet grass, but pretty much usless if you lift one of the rear wheels.
When in 4L (and 4H locked if you've a 4.0 xj) the transfer case is locked meaning that you have drive to both axles no matter what. If you had the centre diff open and you loose traction on 1 wheel you've get stuck. 4x4's with 3 open diffs are only 1 wheel drive if your stuck ;)

cheers i think mine must have a open rear diff then because i had one front and one rear wheel spinning when i was towing my van out of the snow the other day

to check if you have a WORKING LSD - lift one rear wheel and try to turn it - if easy you do not have one (or the one in it is shot) - if hard to turn with wheel brace then it is working
