I'm looking for a cheap to run greenlaner, i've always had landies but was very impressed last time i went laning and saw a jimny and an sj. Its going to be a second car for a bit of fun thats not going to drain my bank balance.

Hi rocco
welcome to the land of light offroading
really your needs will dictate which zook is best for you
how many wud you want to carry?
how far do you want to mod it?
wot size engine you thinkin of?
want live axles or IFS?
leafs or coils?
tintop or soft top?
fill that lil bit in and ill come up with the best candidates for ya and some pix

Hi generation-x
The truck will only be carrying me the mrs and the dog, ideally it'll need power steering and be comfortable to drive as the wife will be using it to take the dog out when i'm at work. I haven't thought too much about engine size but i would prefer coils over leafs and definatly a hard top.
As for mods suspension and body lift plus decent mud tyres to start and it'll probably evolve from there as i break stuff or find flaws.
Dont want much do I
Cheers

would prefer 3 door.

ok m8y
that sort of funds wud get you a mint jimny only prob not much boot space in them unless you bin the rear seats for your dog
lift kits can be from a simple 1.25" coil spacer kit off bits4vits to a massive 4.5" full suspesion kit off the offroad armoury ORA can also sort under body prtection for the jimny aswell as winch bumpers imho join a couple of the suzuki forums to gauge more info on different lift kits bigjimny is one shropshire-suzuki is another both have good jimny sections with some good info.
if your wanting a slightly bigger engine then its a late 3door vitara again not much in the way of boot space but as only 2 of you bin the rear seats again
again lift kits go from 1.25" upto the calmini 3" lift kit
you can fit bigger tryes on the vitara easier than the jimny due to bigger arches but you have weak forn axles on the vit as its IFS unlike the jimny that has beam axles with coils all round,

I would go for a Jimny and take the back seats out much better ride easy to modify and can be very capable.
-
Thanks for the advice gents, I've just been and had a mooch round a jimny and see what you mean about the boot space, the back seats will definatly be coming out.
I think the jiny will be the way to go, it looks like there's some nice kit available for them.

Get a 1.6 Baleno engine to replace the knackered one and it makes the Jimny even better

Yep, thats exactly what I did, plenty of room without the rear seats. I go on camping trips in mine and I take loads of gear with me.
