It's always a problem when you mention Mods ! but my advice is to use a few comparison sites like moneysupermarket.com and tescocompare.com and don't rely on just one. You then have to go to the site and add details like the mods but it might find you a better deal.

Other thing to try is see if you can get a classic car policy instead.

£276 for me, 5000 mileage for `94 Disco V8, 3rd pft

Kwik-fit and I got a free MOT voucher from them and you then get a 10% discount on all work they do on your motor.

Great thread :)

I tried a well known 4x4 broker but they didnt answer :(

So i sinned and used go compare.com

Didnt get very far with them as i added the Lift Kit and Army camo colours to the list of mods.

Then 5 mins ago i get a phone call from them, I just hate that but................

They double checked my details again, and put me on hold for about 4 mins, so i hung up as i have loads of Invoicing to do in the office.
They phone back, and say they have got the price Down to £ 201.00  Fully Comp !!

Another person is going to pnone back with details and get it set up.

Im pretty pleased with that price though, ill let you know who the Main Insurance peeps are as soon as i know.

Blue, with the mods and 7,500 is about £350 IIRC, the LSE with 10,000 (unlimited) £380 and Julie's TDi with 10.000 and a big intercooler about £330.

That said, the Micra is about £320 this year, it's now worth LESS than the LSE.

The only thing you need to be aware of with classic policies is that they don't acrue no claims discounts.

Adrian Flux or Pete Best are pretty good, they also know about mods,
so when you say you've got a lift or a winch,
they actually know what you are talking about!
Cheers..........

landrover 200tdi with mods, £2100! 3rd party, thats what comes from being 18 and thats with MFU mutual but they dont care about mods, so long as it isnt a mod to the power the car gives out or to the running gear

I have paid £210 Fully comp with no claims protection I'm 34 and got a 3.9 v8 Range Rover no points on licence in the past 5 years. They also did break down for £33. Covered to green lane and no problems with mods, not that i have many. This was through Sureterm direct, let me know if you need a no.

Mat I feel sorry for you paying £2100! I think you may be paying for my generation when we were 18  I don't know how you young boys can afford to drive?

Matt i know how you feel.

I'm paying around £2k a year to insure my classic with a 4.6 in it. They decided its technically a group 18 car.
That's fully comp in my own name and when i took it out i didnt actually have any NCB.
It's also got a sequential lpg kit on it.

It sounds a lot but given that i'm 20 i guess its a lot cheaper than comparable non-LR vehicles.

*EDIT - meant to add thats with NFU, as are the rest of our cars (except my carmichael).
They were more than happy to insure my offroader with cage, winch etc etc

I have just renewed my insurance with Adrian Flux (08000 83 88 33) Here's some of the main pointers:

£200 excess
£70 Windscreen excess
Protected no claims
UNLIMITED MILEAGE
and full breakdown including crash recovery, home start, trailer and caravan recovery to the destination of your choice

This cost me £245 I have 9 years no claims, and no points or claims in the last 5 years. My wife is also a named driver and covers me 3rd party on all other cars.

This was the best I could find as of the 5/1/09

91 Discovey V8 with lift and a few other mods, 26 YO cost me £200 fully comp in the UK (Tesco) but am currently paying 90 Euro a month to have it in Germany.

Crazy thing ere is that it will cost me the same to insure a brand new (£30K) Defender 110 as it does formy 18YO Discovery!!! Germany- I still don't understand the laws!!!
