Title: Parts to fit a roll cage
Post by: zulublue on February 24, 2008, 19:49:18
I have a chance of getting hold of a roll cage for my 90 Truck Cab, the cage has 4 flat plates for in the back tub and 2 down tubes for the front hoop, it does not have any mounting brackets with it.

Can you anyone tell me what I need where and how its fixed to the chassis, and where to buy? A diagram or pics would be great.

IT SHOULD HAVE FLAT PLATES TO PICK THEM UP, underneath with box section or brackets to weld / bolt onto the chassis, lots of people just bolt these to the floor, this is not advisable, looks good but will pull off easily!
if you cannot make yourself, id bolt it into position and take to a small fabrication shop or garage and see if they will make up bottom brackets for you.

looking at the pic (but it might just be the pic) looks home made as there are what looks like some deformed / creased bends and lots of welded joints as opposed to single lengths.

Had to do a double take for a moment then, its almost identical to the cage I fitted to my lightweight and you house must've been buily by the same builder :) ... its not an MQ is it??

Forgot to add, i cut round holes in the floor plates and welded the front direct to the outriggers on top of a reinfirced plate, behind the bulkhead I welded square plates to the top of the chassis and bolted to the flat plates on the cage after drilling em. I cut off the rear stays and welded them back on angled to the seat box tops so I could fit forward facing buckets in the rear for the kids.

Cheers Steve

Cheers Dan, is it worth me getting a brace that goes across the front windscreen?

I have been told it is CDS tube and made by Betterweld

it does need a front brace, as it is, the front section is doing very little, and in a side impact will do nothing.

Does anyone know if a cage like this will fit in a transit van?
