Title: Remembering the HSE
Post by: Bush Tucker Man on July 30, 2003, 12:39:30
Whoopee, first post!!!!

Nobody got one then?

I had a go in a 4.6HSE at Copley Motors (Halifax) when we went to pick up our 110Tdi when we bought it (Oct '97)

We were just looking at their demonstrator when the salesman we'd been dealing with asked if we wanted a drive.
Is the Pope Polish? of course I did.

I couldn't believe how quick it was (in sport mode) from a standing-start if it was fully wound up.
I didn't want to believe the 7mpg on the trip-display though.

Performance wise, comparing it to the 110Tdi was like comparing that to my old 2A Light-Weight.

I like the original Range Rover and could quite fancy that 4.6 & gearbox in a 'classic' It'd be nice.

I wasn't going to say anything for fear of being called a show-off....

But I do have an Engine from a 38a in the 90... does that count ??

As long as you do the same as Thrasher and stick a HSE badge on the back to let everyone know

If the sounds from the exhaust don't give it away, then they don't deserve to know ;-)

If Thrasher turned his ICE system down, we may be able to hear the tone of the exhaust notes instead of thrash metal

Thrasher's engine doesn't count anyway... his modified vehicle has a hybrid engine... with all sorts of bits mixed together....  You can't class it as a Range Rover engine any more.

I don't know... we really shouldn't allow these modified, modified vehicles in the club

Piglet is a throwback from the days of BMW ownership as it was going to be named as the new Discovery - The BITSA - bitsa this Land Rover and bitsa that Land Rover

I was after a 4.0 but found a 4.6 at a good price and couldn't resist

It can be a little thirsty (16-19mpg so far, less in traffic) so an LPG conversion was a prerequisite.

Nice when you put your foot down (as long as you don't have the trip computer showing the economy at the time).  Feels quite brisk, then you remember it is a 2.5 tonne hunk of metal, not a little sports saloon

I've found people tend to pull out in front of me on roundabouts, presumably because they see it and assume it is slow.  They soon seem to learn when you are thundering towards their broadside.
