Title: Alot of bend in my front springs.
Post by: SteveW on February 18, 2008, 18:35:04
I've recently had a set of 3" lift winch springs fitted to the front of my Jimny to replace the standard 3" lift ones that were on and I've noticed that theres alot of bend in the springs when the cars sat at its normal height.

Just wondered if this was a problem encountered by any other Jimny drivers and if there's anything that can be done to alter it?

I know theres talk of moving the spring mounts forward a couple of inch when lifts get to big but I'm only up 3" so can't see that thats necessary just yet! Maybe once I get a bit more carried away with it and try to go higher!

The drivers side is worse usually, do you have longer panhard rods fitted. Anything over 2" lift pulls the body over and can cause the spring to 'bend' and sometimes catch the chassis. Mine 'bend' but haven't been a problem in the 2 yrs I've had them on.

Ye I've got adjustable panhard rods on. The springs just seem to bend forwards alot, think they might catch on the mount that sits inside them a bit due to the bend. Not too worried just wondered about the normality of it.

And here they are (sorry about the poor picture) under stress

They look about the same as mine so I guess its about normal. I think mine catch on the mount that sits inside the top of the spring a bit though. One thing is that I have been told that the castor correction has been done but I don't think it has so that might help a bit too.

Cheers

Well mine has castor correction as well (as far as I have been told).  And it certainly drives fine which indicates the castor is ok as I understand the main symptom is that the steering wheel will not self centre after turning corners if the castor is wrong.

Didn't know that was an easy way to check, I'll try that on mine.
