Post by: zippy on July 10, 2006, 23:07:43
anyone know of a 4x4 that can compete with the jimny on the MPG?

Got roads of all gradients like this to go up in croatia and need the mpg on top coz it's only 20p less a litre down there.

I know they quote 40mpg + thats why my mate bought one.  Now He wishes He had bought the Disco He wanted as the little Zuke is not all that economical at all.

so what speeds ppl getting outta the diesel conversions and mpg on the samurai.

I was considering getting a good nick near mint sammy and converting it to diesel.

My zook(sammy) with Landy axles and an exo cage, and a 1.7 Tdi  still only hits about 28-30 mpg if I drive carefully.

The gearing is not good for economy to be honest, but Id guess a stock diesel turbo sammy might only get 35-40 mpg.

I recon its due to the awesome aerodynamics.....

well that is just not worth a engine swap, might as well get a jimny.

There gotta be a mpg thing with 4x4 somewhere. Suppose i gotta wait for the panda 4x4 to come out in the diesel

if you require boot space then an sj or jimny is the wrong choice, just take the back seats out thats what i've done in mine saves being a taxi lol

i need a economical 4x4 for in croatia and only the jimny comes close. Other choices are the renault seanic rx4 or wait on a panda 4x4 in diesel.

I get near 30 mpg on the daily 10 mile trip down country lanes to work, but mine has 29" tyres and a lobster box. I dont know what it was like standard as it was only like that for 3 days.

Std they arn.t much better. 30mpg is doing well and if your seriously going to off road you need bigger tyres which means poorer mpg. I've had mine down as low as 20mpg. Also the size of the tank@ 7 gals  means looking for frequent fuel stops. They're great fun for short trips but a cheap diesel disco ( i'm sorry to admit) would make a better long distance overland vehicle. Remeber once you get to croatia the diesel is nice n cheap.

Hi there, you most certainally don't buy a Zuk for the economy or the carrying capacity. They are best off road. My 200tdi Disco with 200,000 miles on the clock still does 28-30 mpg solo and 22-23mpg towing a 2 1/2 ton box trailer and that has the aerodynamics of a small bungelow. My Zuk is only used off road now and the Disco is my road car. I think if you want economy then diesel is the way to go. Best of luck.

Hi there, in Spain you will find LWB Samurais with a Peugeot engine I believe. So there yo go more carrying capacity and economy plus it's a diesel and a added bonus already left hand drive.
