Title: And Finally.......
Post by: Hovis on June 08, 2006, 09:13:27
Well it's finally finished. Well all most, just a couple of bits and pieces to do, nothing major other than the transfer box. Just hope it goes through the MOT ok.

I took it out on Sunday for the first time and the carb suddenly decided it didn't want to work any more! Luckily the Rapid Response Unit (Dad) was at home and within 20 mins arrived with a replacement!  :D It went really well after that.

We did have quite a major problem occur though. Whilst driving up a well rutted track we grounded out. When we went back and I noticed that we had left a wheel behind!!    It turned out that where the centre of the wheel had been welded back in had failed, leaving the centre attached to the car!    Just pleased we weren't on the road!

A big thank you to everyone who has given input and help with the problems I had. Also I’d like to thank Roger who spent 4 weekends welding and grinding etc etc and his wife who gave up her parking space in the garage! Also to my Dad, who gave up his garage for several weeks whilst we faffed about trying to get it to work. And stayed up until 12am painting it when he had to up at 5.30 the next day!

Anyway a couple of pics of how it was and how it is

Mark, can I be the first to say its looking good.

Your pick up was my inspiration to buy a sj, and I really wanted to buy it but you are too far away from me. I've since bought another club members sammy, which I've just put a 410 transfer box in with hand brake on, and I'm busy finishing a rear disc conversion.

i'll be posting more pic's soon.

Rob.

Got the wheels sorted on saturday, i think they look better than the 8 spokes. Some great faces pulled when i turned up and said please change these. The spacers i got work really well too.

Carb started to play up again on Sunday though  :(

Cheers mate. It's the same tires but different wheels. The offset isn't as much as the reversed wellers.

Yes its a product called Corrofast over 98 Line primer. It's an industrial paint and is really hard, meant to be sprayed but doesn't look to bad when brushed.

I wasn't going to. My mate thinks we should. What’s the general consensus?

Leave them as is or paint them black?

If your gonna do em black then use Hammerite smooth satin spray, it goes on easy and leaves a really nice satin shine.
