As Colin started the worst movie string
i thought someone should start there best movie
My personal favorite
"Shawshank redemption" pure class
-
Don't think I can put a claim to just one, but the Shawshank redemption would be up there.
My mini list would be:
Cladiator, epic film.
The Alien series, best sci-fi films going.
The Matrix trilogy, the concept gets you thinking.
And Flash Gordon, that line from Brian Blessed "Gordons Alive" great :D and Ming the ultimate bady
Also like the Terminator films for the special effects :D
-
If you ever feel like having you head messed with try
Memento or Donnie darko
Great movies, but screw with ya brain
HOORAY THATS 200 POSTS
-
American Graffiti, The Blues Brothers to name but two.
Paul.
-
Well you've already mentioned a few of mine
I'll add
Con Air...... 'put the bunny down'
Dusk till Dawn..... So much fun
Dog solders .....just silly
Moulin Rouge (well I am female  )
The Crow
Parenthood
The Birdcage
Indiana Jones Trilogy
Shallow Hal - Very funny Very Sad
Truely Madly Deeply
I'll shut up now
-
Dog soldiers .... Just think what they could have done with a decent budget ( I am waiting for hollywood to remake it and screw it up)
Nikita ..... In french with sub titles, truly dark and scary film. The americans remade it as 'The Assasin' and in comparison it was pants.
Zulu ...... Rip roaring yarn. I normaly can't stand films with so many historical inaccuracies as this film but for some reason they dont bug me with this one.
Kelly's Heros ...... mainly for the showdown scene where Clint Eastwood, Telly Savalas and Donald Southerland are in a wind swept street facing down a Tiger tank with spegehiti western music playing.
Shrek ...nuff said
Arsnic and Old Lace ...... CHARGE!!!!
-
The Italian Job :D
-
Duel
Convoy
classics..... :D
-
The Italian Job :D
My Mum got me an Italian Job t-shirt for Christmas. Three minis, and the words "You're only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off" down one side.
She admitted that she didn't have a clue what it meant, but my siblings assured her I'd like it.
-
Twin Town
Shawshank (already mentioned)
The Sting (the original)
Usual Suspects
LA Confidential
Platoon
Pulp Fiction
The Green Mile
French Connection
The Bourne Series (identity and supremacy)
-
apocolypse now
if thats how u spell it
steve
-
i wonder how many people know who actually wrote the original short story that shawshank was based on? cmon, someone other than me must know :)
-
Twin Town
I can't watch that film without feeling the need to make annoying comments. Things like "But... you can't turn left off Cromwell Street and end up there!"
-
i wonder how many people know who actually wrote the original short story that shawshank was based on? cmon, someone other than me must know :)
Was it Steven King, the short story the film was based on being "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption"??
Some of my top films include:
Zulu
Platoon
Saving Private Ryan
Kelly's Heroes
Aliens
Charge of the Light Brigade
They Died With Their Boots On
Duck Soup
A Bridge Too Far
Waterloo
The Alamo
Cheers,
Nick
-
Hmm.... a few there that I forgot about.
Saving Private Ryan, and also the best mini series on tele I've ever watched directed by the same team, Band of Brothers, excellent :D
Platoon,
Shrek and Shrek 2
Toy Story and Toy Story 2.
The Green Mile is also a good film, so to Moulin Rouge, did'nt think this would be my cup of tea, but I enjoyed it.
And of course who could miss off there list the Star Wars films :D.
-
Some great films there, Blues Brothers, Raiders of the Lost Ark, T2, Preditor, Italian Job, Zulu, Kellys Heroes, Good Bad Ugly, Dr No, The Great Escape( should be reanimated, so he gets over the fence), Bullet, well anything with Steve Mc Queen, dam cool bloke, Dirty Harry( all those one liners), Alien, and Aliens, not the third one.
And nobody has mentioned the Star Wars 4-5-6-1-2, and with 3 about to come out.
But what about the best single scene from a modern movie, that makes you go "OH Yes" most recent for me was "We were Soldiers" with Mel Gibson leading his men up the hill in nam, with the camera going from him going up hill, to the top of the hill were the nips have all there guns loaded and ready, just as Mel comes over the ridge, and his face drops as he sees all the nips waiting for the assault, a Huey comes up behind him with chain guns blazing, i just didnt expect it.
-
Highlander - interesting concept
As mentioned "Dusk till Dawn" my favourite
and for something recent "Kill Bill" 1&2 - truly brilliant, infact any Tarantino film is worth a mention.
-
Oh and did I not mention another one of favourites Forest Gump :D
In fact any film Tom Hanks has done, quality actor.
-
Hell i forgot Highlander, great storie, and the music from Queen at there best.
-
Hell i forgot Highlander, great storie, and the music from Queen at there best.
Totally agree, 'There can only be one' :D
Best tracks, Gimme the prize and Princes of the Universe :D
-
"Better to burn out, than to fade away"
-
"Better to burn out, than to fade away"
:D :D :D
'Who wants to live forever' :?:
-
You're so right about that,Andy, absolute classic track 8)
Paul.
-

Star Wars, how could I forget??? Especially when I got 4-6 on DVD from Santa AND bought 1 and 2 in the New Year sales at half price from Blockbuster!! :D :D
Almost put Band of Brothers down on the list too, but strictly speaking not a movie! :P Fantastic though - have been rewatching the series over the last few evenings. Best on Region 1 DVD - DTS soundtrack and USA mix includes quite a few scenes that were deleted from the version shown on UK TV and on the Region 2 set. Makes a lot more sense when these are left in, as intended...
I'll take me anorak off now 8)
Nick
-
Hell i forgot Highlander, great storie, and the music from Queen at there best.
and yet, curiously "highlander 2" belongs on the other list....
odd huh ?

I would really love the DVD box set, could easily watch it again.
Is there two available then? Region 1 and Region 2 :?:
-
"Better to burn out, than to fade away"
:D :D :D
'Who wants to live forever' :?:
Great 1 liners also include:
"Forgive me father for I am but a worm" and
""Hi, I'm Candy"...... "Yes, I'm sure you are!""
I'll take off my anorak now!
-
"I'll be back" :D
-
Best one liner ....
Don't you say a f*****g word :D
Come on the name the film.
-
BB.....
Ed
-
"It's 106 miles to Chicago; we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses - HIT IT!!!" 8)
classic!!
More goodies.......
The Gods must be crazy; superb!!!
Dog soldiers - those poor Landies!!
Very bad things - take that, bitch!!!
Sleepless in Seattle - top girly film! :)
Reservoir dogs; real time pain and violence, awesome.
All of the LOTR trilogy; just superb!!
The Lion King - wonderful!!! :)
The Rocky Horror Picture Show; pure kitsch, excellent!! :D
-
Some good choices there;
'Dracula' said; 'American Graffiti' (http://kathyschrock.net/graffiti/) , a totally 'bitchin' film, great cars, marvellous soundtrack & of course Wolfman Jack
Love that 'Deuce Coupe' & Harrison Fords black '55
'Muddy Steve' said; 'Convoy'. A cinematically superb opening sequence with that black Mack R700
"Arizona, noon on the 7th of June, when they eyeballed over the pass. Bulldog Mack with a can on the back & a Jagwar haulin' Ass" :D
'Duel'; Spielbergs first film?? Great suspense film & well shot
My list;
'The Lord Of The Rings'. Everything I ever expected since I first read the books almost 25years ago. SWMBO thinks Vigor Mortensson is 'hot'
Only fault is the 'chuckle brothers' (Pippin & Merry)
'Smokey & The Bandit' (1). Burt Reynolds perfect film, self deprecating, beautiful truck (Kenworth W900) & trailer. Nice (hotted up) '78 Trans-Am. Great supporting cast; Jerry Reed & Sally Field.
A nice, for me, soundtrack (especially opening sequence)
'American Graffiti'. See above
'Batman'. Michael Keaton steals the show as a mixed up semi-psychotic Bat. And as for Nicholson as the Joker
'X-Men' (1 &2) Superb casting. Patrick Stewart as Xavier, Ian McKellan as Eric Lenscher. And the film stealer - Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.
In '2', the opening 'Nightcrawler' scene is awesome.
'Waynes World'. The first(?) & best 'slacker' movie. The only good use of a Queen song   .
Tia Carrera :D "Schwingg!!!"
'Reach For The Sky'. Inspirational. Kenneth More was great as Douglas Bader.
-
Blues Brothers is one of our youngest's fav films, Spagetti Westerns, Any Dirty Harry movie
Some of the Classics too, like The Maltese Falcon, G Men, To have and have not.
And of course ....... Casablanca
Um ... as you can tell I a hopeless film junkie
Heres a question
Which other film completely copied the opening sequence to Casablanca?
-
:D I thought "THE GREEN MILE" was an excellant movie.

-
<Band of Brothers> I would really love the DVD box set, could easily watch it again.
Is there two available then? Region 1 and Region 2 :?:
The Region 1 set is native to North America... find it to import at www.playusa.com
Your player has to be capable of handling Region 1 discs (via a mod or hack) but many of the cheaper ones play 'em straight out the box. And your TV has to NSTC compatible (the US TV system, as opposed to PAL) - again, most are.
Cheers,
Nick

Now I'm p888ed off, we bought the box set and I havn't watched it yet. Series was great though, my list would have to include

Bluse Brothers
Amarican Graffiti (spotted the theme yet?)
The french connection (come on you must have guessed)
Smokey and the bandit (now I'm giving it away)

Where eagles dare
The great escape
the dam busters
You think that's not a good film? what about the line
"what possible reason could I give the ministry to get you a Wellington, they're worth their weight in gold?"
"If you told them I designed it, might that help?"

You might as well add "it's a wonderful life" if you're having white christmas.
Isn't that the one with James Stewart and something to do with an angel stopping him jumping off a bridge on Christmas Eve?
