Been thinking how easy it would be to fit a 300 in to my 90 using the existing LT77 box, only things that would need changing are the engine mounts n pipe work etc,
any 1 got any input on whether the swap would be worth while or not?
-
200
-
i prefer the 200 :)
-
o damn double post 200
-
dan, that might be because we are a litle biased towards it?! lol seeing as we are both TDi men
-
300 lol :P
-
yea
but i got a 300disco
my 200 wins everytime, the disco got the cat and egr removed
dan
-
i like the 200 in my defender better than the 300 in the g/f's disco. It seems to pull much better and drive better. But then the defender is a lot lighter than disco.
-
mine goes better than a 300disco and weighs more than a disco
bit bias, but 2BH both are damn fine engines, i just find this disco, you hit the throttle, you can sit there n watch your watch go by and nuffink happen then bang off you go, the 200 hit the throttle and its up and gone
ive never driven a 200 offroad tho, so it could be a different ball game, but am lead to believe 300tdis are alot better on hill climbs, but afink thats to do with the 300 running a higher std boost pressure over the 200
:?
my honest opinion now anyhows

Got a 300 at the mo, but I've had a couple of 200's & 4 other 300's. This 300 is the quickest I've had but its had a bit 'o tweakin'. I've never had a problem with either engine & would have a 200 again without hesitation, so I'd say keep the 200 til its knacked & then think about swapping.

its mikes, it is knackerd

I'd go for a Td5!!...
Failing that, I prefer my 300Tdi over my older 200Tdi... both good engines, but the 300 is a bit less tractor like.
A standard, a 300Tdi (in a Defender) is more powerful that a 200Tdi! - but a simple tweak and they both produce about the same power.
My 300TDi will be going even better soon - will hopefully have all the mods done for Mikes rolling road day... well that's the plan  - in saying that, it's going to cost me quite a bit in diesel!!.
A 300Tdi onto a LT77 isn't hard... you just need the rear cover (i.e. the flywheel housing) off a pre 300Tdi engine.
Then it's just the mounts, and pipework as mentioned - and ideally another Radiator (as 200 and 300 are different) - and so is the intercooler, but AFAIK you've already got a big Allisport Jobbie.

yup
its as simple as i thought it was then, got 2 spare rear housings of 200's,
have a full size allisport cooler, pipeworks not an issue,th PAS would be though :?

Pas not too bad, could virtually run the 300tdi set up - and just have a couple of the pipes lengthened to suit.
Ian
-
just fitted a brand new PAs box so im no changing it lol, might need to get some Hyd hoses made up longer to suit

Box is the same (as long as a 6 or 4 bolt)... so only new pipes.

just my luck than as its a 3 bolt setup

3 bolt has a different thread... so you'll have to have a custom set of pipes made.

200 and 300 tdi have the same power.. its just the 300tdi is a more refined engine...

Sorry... but no they don't!! - especially not in a Defender!
A Defender 200Tdi - 107bhp and 188lbft of torque
A Discovery 200Tdi - 111bhp and 198lbft or torque (hence why it's called a 200)
Defender and Discovery 300Tdi's...
Both have 111bhp and 205lbft of torque (in theory)
That's only the manuals too... Auto's produce a bit more.

off topic slightly but were is the power and torque being lost on the 90? zorst?

the z shape bend of end of the turbo, restrics it abit,
well in my opinion, but i stand to be corrected
over to you ian.........

All right fellas. Yo mike why ya thinking about a change is your tired or [!Expletive Deleted!]. My 200tdi is tops now but I am in 2 minds if to sell it and buy newer. It dont lack any power but I can be bothered to do the transfer box. I am sick of the gearing as I still got the 2.5 N/A box.... Its just not got any motorway cruse..... Anyhow here is what I just bought SWMBO
-
200s are better, simpler, and moe resistant to abuse and overheating.
i got a 200 in my offroader and a 300 in my road defender. 200 eats it.
-
im more than happy with my 200 havnt realy used it off road yet but its got more power than my old 2.5 LWB paj and that coped with plenty of off roading so im expecting great things from this.

yes they cling. side walls could be better but they are very good. i would say an easy equal to ETs.
my axle casings are from a millitary 110 "WOLF". huge stoppers and massivly strengthened throughout.
-
ahhhh, my grandad rigs them wolfs out with all there electronics, i might steal his work keys and go and pinch the axles from under them
wounder if they'll notice
