Title: Nasty ticking after total rebuild: 1977 2.25 petrol
Post by: dapleb on March 06, 2004, 19:59:25
Ohhh the shame... rebuilt my 2.25 petrol and have a cammy ticking noise.

Its not the tappets.  By turning the engine slowly with the crank handle the clicking can be located to No6 and to a lesser extent No3 (both inlet) as the valve starts to close.

The camshaft is new, new cam follower kits, new cylinder head with new valves/springs etc.  Oil ways are clear.

All advice, comments, thoughts  appreciated.  In fact even if you just feel like  taking the mick thats fine

Cheers

Rocker shaft?

Today, I dug a little deeper. Took the rocker assembly off and felt the pushrod on No.6 as the engine was cranked. The click (probably a better description than a tap) can still be felt, so the problem is probably camshaft or my new tappet slider/roller kits. The orig sliders were obviously directional as they had 'front' written on one side, but the new'uns didn't. Is it possible to fit these incorrectly? My camshaft is also new and the cam bearings were in decent condition. I am puzzled!

I guess its head off next weekend!

Thanks again.

Cheers
