is there any differance in the disck brakes i.e depth , or a differance in stub axels on either the 300 or 200.. :?
as ive fitted new seals new bearings and new sleaves for the bearings but hae a problem with the diff oil leaking over my back wheels ..
or could it be the sleaves go in at differant depths? and not all the way upto the center retainer could any body shed some light on this for me please

hi andy
did you put the rear seal in the the hub the correct way round??
the rear one should be a lip seal and from memory the lip should be pointing inward.
I Also have a feeling that the rear seal should only be pushed flush with the end of the hub as it has to go over the machined section on the stub axle.

I've just put a 95 300tdi axle on my 93 200tdi.
While doing the swap I checked the measurements of everything and they all appeared to be the same.
Can't say if anything pre 1993 may be different.
You haven't got a blocked axle breather?

yep every thing fitted correctly but when nuts tightened and locked still a lot of play in the disc as it move back n fourth  its as if the disc assembley is to long or a seal or spacer missing but that lithium based grease is garbage paced em full of it when pulled it apart it was all runny like snot and dosnt stay in or on the bearings ill try a mix this time

Cant help with your problem but, I do like the way you describe it as a leak. I've looked at the pics and that IS NOT a leak. It's a raging torrent! :D
The lithium based grease should be fine. If it's all runny and leaking(raging) out of the hubs like it appears to be then I would say your diff is washing it out. Which it obviously shouldn't be. I would say that your hub oil seal is either in wrong or not in at all. Sorry I can't be a bit more helpful.

my hub seal went (cue oil patches on the drive!)
turns out the breather pipe was blocked and when the axle was getting warm the air had nowhere to go except through the seal..
cleaned out the breather pipe and replaced seal and all is jubbly now
maybe worth checking breather whilst fixing the seal as this may have caused the problem.
but incidentally that same seal went just before mot and it failed (the oil went on the disc and pad
cue new disc/pad/seal
and an emptier wallet for the trouble cos the garage did it before re-testing
