Title: Classic rangie questions

Im swapping my old gearboxes with those from an 89 classic which has the viscous coupling and mine doesnt. Is it a straight swap ? what are the wires on the rear of the transfer box as my old one doesnt have them?
Also im about to swap the cam and want to know whats the best way to get the crank pulley off as you cant exactly lock it in gear to stop the engine spinning. Also is it a reverse thread as dont want to accidently try and tighten it? Any help would be greatfully received as sworn at it lots already! :huh:

If you had a 4-speed then you'll find the 5-speed is longer and hits the floor.  If you had the LT230 transfer box then the Borg-Warner unit you want ot fit goes in it's place.  You need to lock the diff-lock lver as it isn't needed, you might find the linkage is different and you need the one from the later car.

The propshafts are the same, the crossmmber should fit with the existing exhaust.

The sensor is probably the oil temp sensor, if it is a RRC then the transfer box will accept the nromal speedo cable.  The handbrake mechanism might be different, if you want to use the later one you need the rigt cable, that might cause problems with the handbrake.

Thanks. The box is in and it moves. The speedo cable doesnt fit as the square drive is too large? The handbrake jus needs the lever from the donor car hopefully!

Swap the drive gear from the old transfer box, it will fit then ;)

Not sure but it might have been the electronic pick-up.  As said swap theplastic gear in the back of the gearbox.
