Title: spot lamp on stock wiring
Post by: SnakeLogic on November 02, 2006, 23:40:48
Hi all.

My question today is this:

If I were to run a roof mounted, rear facing spot lamp (I've got one lying around) off the wiring for the auxiliary back up lights (the ones that activate off the dash panel) WOULD the wiring/fuse be able to handle the draw, or would I just start a fire?

If I had to rewire the whole thing, I'd likely not do it.  In my past experiences with other vehicles, I've learned that car electrics is one part skill and two parts black magic.

Combination of knowledge and skill, with a bit of logic and common sense added to taste.

Don't run a spot lamps from your reversing lights, use a relay and power from the battery.  You might find a wire behind the RHS rear lamps cluster for the 12S provison for a tow bar, you'll also find provision for a reversing lamp feed to the same.  Hey presto, half the job done for you.
