Does anybody know how much it costs to get one of these replaced and where in Birmingham I can get it done.

You need to make sure its the head gasket first as the 3.9's suffered from slipped liners. If its a slipped liner then its terminal for the engine.

Get a test done on it to determine wants gone on it.

It's more likely that overheating caused a slipped liner than vica-versa.  Head gaskets do go, especially after something like a mild overheat caused by low water level.  The V8 can leak anywhere form the many hoses but a common one is the end of the smaller pipes near the throttle body, right where you can't reach it.

Anyhoo, a full set of gaskets will be about £40 and I can get mine skimmed for £20 each.  If you skim the heads you raise the compression ratio.  The comnposite gaskets compress down to 1.2mm, the aluminium (tin) gaskets are 0.5mm and there is a dimension given in the manual for how much metal you can atke off.

you have no real garantee that they havn't been skimmed before, but if you know where to look you can make a sound guess.
