Title: cold engine cough
Post by: range17 on November 27, 2011, 18:07:42: As title really ,any ideas why my 200tdi engine [coughs] on tick over when cold but runs fine when warm ,tried another set of injectors and lift pump .

Do you mean lift pump ?if so then i have fitted another one of them :undecided:

Post by: JIMBOBLY on December 16, 2011, 21:24:43: sorry mate,im bein a bit dense,with workin on loads of other stuff,i meant the prima pump on fuel filter housing,but they dont have them,if you have a "lift pump",lol,sorry :rolleyes:

Post by: range17 on December 17, 2011, 10:59:17: Thats ok mate appreciate any ideas at the moment ,alot of people are saying it happens with there 90 and is normal but it never use to happen so cant see its normal ,trying to find out if there is some sort of cold start setting in the pump that might be playing up .

Post by: JIMBOBLY on December 17, 2011, 23:01:06: well another thing to try mate,before you go and spend money,is the tappet gaps,the coughing when cold,could be a compression issue,due to incorrect tappet gaps inlet and outlet valves are both 0.20mm,and should be adjusted cold,give that a try,i got a very cheap 200tdi to put in my rangie,because they thought it was knackerd,because gaps were to tight,worth a bash mate

Post by: range17 on December 18, 2011, 11:49:41: Double checked the gaps and were spot on thinking of backing them of just to see if it makes a difference,can't understand why it does it when cold ,if it was air leak or something then it would do it all the time .

timing slightly off, when was belt last done?

some of the tdi Injection pumps had a cold start spring loaded lever arm thingie on the side and some don't... but I think that relates more to the 300tdi.

Post by: range17 on December 18, 2011, 20:19:35: idle speed is correct when warm and the timing is set using the pins ,plus i have tried some fine adjustment on the timing side of things ,
The belt was new when i rebuilt the engine 250 miles ago .
