can anyone tell me when i should change the cambelt on my 200tdi?
i've done 4000 since the last change and another thread in here has me thinking that it might go soon
-
every 60,000 miles or 3 years springs to mind from the haynes manual
but i do mine every 6 months, or after any long underwater offroad durations

mines been in for a year, i've only done 4000 miles
tempted to change it anyway
-
i would
it isnt much of a job
saves it breaking

Indeed, it might be wise given the hassle we've had from one well within its interval. Every 6 months? Thats seriously diligent.
-
its a bit more of a job for me, as there is not enough space between the rad and engine to do it
so i have to take the radiator out, which isnt a straigtforward job
i think i have to take the whole front centre panel out :/

dont bother, as long as you changed the idler wheel last time it will be fine for ages.

i'll be changing it then!!!

Autodata manual states every 60,000 miles or 5-years, whichever occurs first.
Every 30,000 miles or 2.5-years, whichever occirs first.
Remove and install time is 4.1 hrs + .2 hrs if you have air con.

i would say " if in doublt change it ". mne was replaced just before i bought it..... 2.5 years on and 25k the darn thing snapped :( :( :(
i have a kit sat here aswell. so a little gutted. i am now gonna break her
-
bet mines more of a pain than yours
my rad sits approx 6 inches away from the timing case
damn intercoolers
get a kit
if its a disco engine, you'll need a tensioner pully and a idler pully
if its a defender engine, youll just need the tensioner as they dont have a idler
whilst its apart ( its your choice ) id be changing the lower crank seal, and the timing cover dust seal aswel

makes me giggle.
On the Audi :
Engine bay sill and grille off (2 mins)
Cambelt cover right in front of you, 6 clips to und (30 secs)
And you are there, all in front of you and dead easy like.
Clio however, first step is removing the engine

Belts .. pah ;-) You need chains :>
-
I miss chains, I can live with a bit of a rattle. Boohoo
-
id rather a belt in all fairness
